This is the most important Substack I have written so far, challenging the now fashionable idea of separating types of autistics and further challenging the tragedy narrative of what is now being referred to as “profound” autism-questioning why we value what we do.

"How could we make ourselves water in their eyes?"
An inquiry into the real reasons motivating the desire to separate Autistics into categories and an invitation to re-consider so-called "profound" autism outside of the tragedy narrative.

The only reason @schumer.senate.gov is voting no tonight on the total Senate cave is because @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social won, and he knows he could not show his face in NYC if he caved.

Grief is a private island. You can only wave to people from it. Even people who have lived on that island, who may understand where you are, can only wave back. And yet the island is invisible so u…

Had the most extraordinary experience tonight of uniting my memoir in progress with speaking about liberating autistic syntax ending with exercises from my theater practice. I'm so filled with joy and having one of those rare and beautiful moments in life when you see All of your life come together.

An announcement about a free presentation on Liberating Autistic Syntax and also that I will send 20% of all new subscriber revenue to City Harvest until SNAP benefits are fully restored. I live on disability but am not hungry and no one should be. It's a disgrace.

for those of you from out of town, Mamdani's win was fueled by an army of over 90K volunteers who knocked on over 3 million doors in the Whole city. It sure wasn't money. It was passion. Most of those volunteers were GenZ. The kids are alright. 🧡💙

Go vote for Mamdani my NYC friends! Last chance to vote is today! We need this change to get our city back! It's so exciting to have someone to Vote For. Don't fall for the billionaire propaganda machine against him. The only thing we have to lose is our rent increases!

If this doesn't make you vote for @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social I honestly don't know what will.
Congratulations, Andrew Cuomo!

I know how hard you worked for this.

In relation to my latest post about a way I found healing outside the norm...what experiences have you had with healing that perhaps arrived unexpectedly or in a way no one prescribes? I think this may be a more common experience than we realize. open.substack.com/pub/julialee...

I know DFW is problematic for a lot of you but for real Infinite Jest is now a documentary not a work of dystopian fiction.

Exactly, Jason! Good on you. I could not agree more.
Proud papa moment: my son J published a letter in the @nytimes.com today (in print tomorrow) on the need to think our definitions of autism.
