One way to think through the victory in Tarrant County, given that Rehmet ran in labor issues, is that the voters were offered two competing theories of solidarity and chose collective bargaining over white supremacy as their mode

This shift is possible and important to aim for

In celebration of Groundhog Day, I'm extending my hibernation through February because it's working. Revisions on book are coming along and my monotropic Autistic soul is happy to be able to focus on one thing. Am rarely on socials and took most off my phone. Take this as permission slip to do same.

Dems: wow we could shut it all down now.
Also Dems...nah let's wait 2 weeks.
All the people being killed and disappeared by ICE and anyone who gives a shit: WTAF???

Democrats are hoping we'll all be calmer about this in 2 weeks

They are hoping we will memory hole every awful thing that's happened this month while the GOP tries to get their people to be more genteel with the kidnappings

Calling my senators to tell them to vote "no" actually
🚨 The Senate has agreed to a deal to vote on 5/6 full appropriations bills and replace the DHS funding measure with a 2-week stopgap bill, per multiple sources. That gives time to negotiate on the Dem demands for ICE and CBP restraints.

Whomever ICE kills in the next two weeks (and make no mistake they will) is on the Democrats. I am just furious with how they roll over even when they have the advantage.

A reading list for where we find ourselves now...feel free to add to this. These are simply suggestions for writing that can offer historical context, in all genres (see thread)
1. Angela Davis: Women Race and Class (which I would subtitle: how we got here - if you can only read one, read this)

I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

I'm spending a lot less time on socials and getting a lot more writing done..coincidence? I think not.

Pro tip: you want to get your book written, take the social media app you use most off your phone.

So far it's working.

High school students in Minneapolis are doing more for democracy than all our mainstream Dem so called leaders. They need to resign and make way for the new generation like Mamdani and AOC et al. People who act and aren't corrupt or complicit or just being craven cowards afraid to risk anything.

I really want ppl w/o Minneapolis connections to understand

You might've heard that Mpls public schools went hybrid bc so many families are in hiding. Well, a coworker just told me that today, during his kid's hybrid class, a kid's apt building was raided onscreen

I've lost words for our current state of degradation, outright cruelty, mendacity, and blatant gaslighting.

my favorite line from his speech today....
Mamdani: For too long, those fluent in the good grammar of civility have deployed decorum to mask agendas of cruelty

That whole inauguration ceremony was a gorgeous display of non-toxic masculinity. The Williams speech was mind blowing. Mamdani extraordinary. Feel a calm hope the tide is finally shifting. After my adult life in Reagan world that is now in supernova, this feels like the new world coming into being.

I've soared beyond the limits of time.
I've traveled to eternity.
I've taken a strange form.
