When you raise children to believe any thoughts, beliefs, behaviors––even questions––that contradict authority figures are sinful, they're conditioned to cooperate with even the most oppressive forces.

Millions of people in the U.S. have been conditioned to collaborate with fascists.
If we are serious about opposing fascism is the US, then we must all do our homework about Christian Nationalism

Good morning, beloveds, I would like to spend more time here but I get pulled into doomscrolling whenever I log on. So, I'm starting a practice of sharing small glimpses of people and communities who are actively building toward a better world in concrete ways.

Sam Nordquist, a 24 year old trans man, was tortured for a month before being murdered and ditched in a field. Five people have been arrested and charged in what a detective said is one of the most horrific crimes she's ever investigated.

The fight is not about pronouns.

THIS PRIDE, WE RIOT ❤️‍🔥
‼️ The National Park Service has REMOVED mentions of transgender people being involved with Stonewall. Not only did the remove the world "Transgender" but changed "LGBTQ+" to "LGBQ+".

The federal government is attempting to erase us and take away our history.

This pride, we riot.

So happy to see @hammerandhope.bsky.social on here! Their analysis is always rooted in a political vision that's much more expansive than the moment we're in. Give them a follow and chip in to support them if you can.

"We are better off doing with people who don’t share our political labels but are nevertheless trying to accomplish the same goals." @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social with the movement version of "show don't tell" –– a helpful reminder to ground us in the work ahead.

Really helpful analysis from @mskellymhayes.bsky.social, esp for those confused by the public response: "Rather than centering Thompson’s humanity, they centered their own, and the humanity and suffering of others who were harmed by the insurance industry." @truthout.org

Exclusionary policies that target trans people for harassment are not a “distraction” from the “real” issues.
1. Transgender Congresswoman Sarah McBride has announced that she will comply with Speaker Johnson's policy declaring her a man and banning trans people from bathrooms.

She is receiving sharp critiques from those with trans friends who work in the capitol.

This is a really simple way Biden could save some lives. People change! But even if some don't, we shouldn't kill them.
There are 40 people currently on the federal death row, and a new Trump administration certainly will try to carry out executions.

Biden must consider that and accept that he would be, indirectly, allowing Trump to act if he does not.

This is another reason a next great step for most of us will be to plug into local movements.

Who are the leaders and orgs in your city working to make life better for folks in tangible ways? Join them!
Folks are talking about creating more inclusive culture on the left—and I approve! But culture needs to be grounded in infrastructure and real relationships, not just social media (which incentivizes individualism/sensationalism). This is why I’m always going on about organization and organizing…

If you haven’t read True Biz, this is your moment! Absolutely delightful.
Now seems like a good time for reintroductions! (I'm procrastinating.) I'm a deaf queer Philly-based writer. 3 books from Random House-- most recently TRUE BIZ, though GIRL AT WAR feels annoyingly relevant to the current moment. Into books, baseball, community activism, and signed languages. 👋🏼
