I got the complaint in the horrific OpenAI self harm case the the NY Times reported today

This is way way worse even than the NYT article makes it out to be

OpenAI absolutely deserves to be run out of business

Threatened black cockatoos, quokkas & other native wildlife are being pushed closer to extinction as their habitat is torn apart for mining profits. 🌳💔 #wildoz #environment

It’s time to say enough.

Add your name to the Wilderness Society’s EPA submission today, and help end forest mining 👇
I just added my name to the Wilderness Society’s submission, you in?
Add your name to stop Alcoa’s plans to strip-mine more than 11,500ha of ancient jarrah forest.

UK cadastre is *wild*. Random piece of land and no one has any idea who owns it.

It's got a very nice hedge, though. maps.app.goo.gl/P5Ps2WiH2hxY...

I have been doing entirely too much earnest posting about deep things recently, I need to do a proper thread about hippo testicles or something just to keep myself sane.

Oh by the way hippos have migratory testicles.

Late last year I began looking into some issues concerning lead in Port Pirie when I broke a story about how testing confirmed a spate of dead birds and bats found across the South Australian town had been killed by acute lead poisoning.

Since then, I've been continuing to dig through FOI.

/1
Documents obtained under FOI show dead and dying birds and bats found across Port Pirie in South Australia last year were exposed to lead at 3,000 times acceptable levels.

Take a moment to read this follow up investigation and report on the story I broke in December:
Dead and dying Port Pirie birds and bats exposed to lead at 3,000 times acceptable levels
South Australia’s EPA did not open a formal investigation into the source of the lead poisoning, despite referral from the Department of Primary Industries

I know you’re prob sick of me but I got this off my chest earlier this week & I think a lot of comedy fans could find it cathartic maybe. I’ve been stewing about it for ages & Im happy that it came out as something other than me snarling and growling heterosexualnonsense.substack.com/p/comedians-...
Comedians obsessed with 'wokeness' are the ones ruining comedy
there's nothing less funny than old lazy jokes about cancel culture that we've heard before

Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume?

GIS Analyst: it's not actually a gap. Australia keeps inconveniently drifting, and since GDA94 was kinda half-assed no one can agree on how to project the damn geometry so that everything lines up.
Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume?

Astronomer: Actually we’re not sure if it is a real gap in my resume or whether we just haven’t yet discovered what I did during that time. We’re going to need a bigger telescope to find out. 🔭
Interviewer: Can you explain this gap in your resume?

Planetary scientist: It's a result of orbital resonances with Jupiter.

This is the perfect analogy.
If you want more people to run, you don’t give them mopeds.
If you want more people to make art, you don’t give them image generators.
This doesn’t “democratize” anything

This point can not be hammered enough. The only way to confirm who is under or over 16 IS TO CHECK EVERYONE.
While this is marketed as a ban to protect children, it is important to recognise the privacy and security impacts will be felt by all people who want to use social media platforms in Australia, including young people. To verify somebody’s age, age assurance measures must be tested on every user.
