The bioethics/applied health ethics/public health ethics starter pack is full (150 people!). Rather than removing less active folks or gatekeeping I'll start another one - so keep letting me know if you're interested in being listed or see anyone who should be added. go.bsky.app/ERXDCeB
I just set up a starter pack for bioethics/applied health ethics/public health ethics. I'm sure I've missed a ton of people, so let me know if you'd like to be included.

The picture that's emerging is one of absolute tragedy for the young victims, a teacher, the shooter and her family.

There are unresolved questions here about why/how the guns were returned and what mental health supports were available for a deeply troubled teen.
RCMP press conference is happening now. RCMP say that as police approached the school, they were shot at. The suspected shooter is identified as Jesse Rootsellar (I'm not sure if that's the correct spelling.)

Given recent news coverage of incredibly successful crowdfunding campaigns for the ICE shooter and the auto worker who yelled at Trump yesterday, seems like a good time to reup my research on this topic. Linking your fundraiser to politicized topics is a great strategy for juicing donations.

In the most recent version of this fundraiser, the campaign has exceeded the original $200k goal, increased the goal to $300k, and removed the reference to Frey being Jewish.
January 12, 2026 at 11:37 PM
Interestingly the campaign creator seems to be trying to dodge this concern by revising the campaign to state vaguely that "Funds will go to help him." The creator doesn't seem to have a clear connection to the ICE agent, wild that it has raised nearly half a million.
NEW: GoFundMe strictly bans fundraisers for “the legal defense of financial and violent crimes,” yet is currently running one “to help pay for any legal services” for the ICE agent who killed Renee Nicole Good. Its conflict is not even the least bit contestable.
GoFundMe Ignores Own Rules by Hosting a Legal-Defense Fund for the ICE Agent Who Killed Renee Good
The fundraiser for the ICE agent in the Renee Good killing has stayed online in seeming breach of GoFundMe’s own terms of service, prompting questions about selective enforcement.
