My 8yo read the word "copse" with no issue - he only hesitated about 30 seconds and he didn't try to make it a long O. Clearly I'm doing something right.

Might as well share this with the world.
-bathing at Crickhollow; despite some angst before arriving, this is really one of the last scenes where the hobbits are genuinely relaxed and 'free.'
- the Three Hunters finding Merry & Pippin; unbridled joy (and bnater)
I've been wanting to revisit a moment in Tolkien's Legendarium for comfort today, and I have my usual preferred passages for this, but I want to hear what others go to as well. What are your favorite joyful moments to return to in the Legendarium?

Increase in productivity since 1979: 87%

Increase in hourly pay since 1979: 32%

Just so happens that ~25% of workers were unionized in 1979. Today? 10%.

As unions declined, the super-rich have taken a larger share of wealth generated by labor. We must build back union power.

Recently saw Hadestown for the 4th time. I seriously cannot get enough of this show; every time I see it, it feels like a piece of me is set right.
"Cuz here's the thing, to know how it ends and still begin to sing, as if it might turn out this time. I learned that from a friend of mine."

Finally watching Welcome to Wrexham. In all honesty, it feels like someone rebooted the 2004 @redsox.com through football ⚽. And I'm loving every minute. @wrexhamafc.co.uk

When we make it through these times, every tragic aspect of our current and past history should be mandatory curriculum in the same way Germany requires students to understand the rise of Nazi ideology and the atrocities they committed. Education is the safeguard against the hatred we face.

I adore @ologies.bsky.social! But I might want to take a bit more time arranging the timing of some topics on my playlist. This was a tough (but amazing!) listen as I walked to my unionized job at an institute of public higher education.

Do I love learning more about some of my favourite literature when I'm at @signumuniversity.bsky.social events? Certainly.

Do I often feel inadequate & stupid amongst the presenters and attendees? Definitely.

Am I fortunate I've built a community where it usually doesn't matter? Absolutely.

No Thrones. No Crowns. NO KINGS.

Today, in big cities and small towns alike, millions of nonviolent protestors will take to the streets to remind Donald Trump and his authoritarian regime who holds the power: THE PEOPLE.

I've worked at UMB for over 10 years, I really shouldn't be surprised when the Dorchester Turkeys show up. I guess it's infrequent enough & I've heard too many stories about attacks.

Trump laid off almost everyone who runs special education at the federal level as a punishment towards Democrats.

The press wasn't reporting on specifics, so I spoke to someone from inside the Department of Education who was let go.

Here's what they told me:

I was able to speak to someone from inside the latest reduction in force about what this means.
