Thought I'd share this article again where I wrote about my favorite scene from THE SUBSTANCE. I finally rewatched the movie again in June & it hit me just as hard then as it did the first time:

Doesn’t matter how many great horror movies get made, doesn’t matter how many times they’ve saved the theatrical movie business since Covid…the genre still can’t get any respect. The “it’s not a horror movie” crowd is always there. This includes filmmakers who can’t admit they made a horror movie.
The reason Sinners is so good is that it’s not a horror movie. It is a film about the Black experience, and the immigrant experience in America. It tells the story of marginalized peoples and uses vampires as allegory to tell that story. It is SO much more than a “vampire movie.”

Happy birthday to Lake Mungo, which premiered at the Sydney Film Festival 17 years ago today!

This found footage-style mockumentary hits that wonderfully potent double whammy of terrifying and deeply tragic.

I love shit like this. The pure, breathtaking stupidity fills me with glee. Just think of all the money this goofy, overpaid dunce wasted rebranding "HBO Max" to "Max" when everyone was saying "but HBO is the brand..." and will now waste changing it back while saying "HBO is the brand!"
Max Is Changing Its Name to (Get This!) HBO Max
Yes, the streamer is going back to its old ways.

Sinners
I saw this a few weeks ago; I really liked it. Twins, Smoke & Stack return home from Chicago to Clarksdale MS to open a juke joint. They recruit their cousin Sammie to play the blues. There’s racist resistance, but another evil, vampiric, threat is drawn in by the enchanting music. #horror

CBP agents *confiscated her seizure meds.*

That’s not law enforcement—it’s abuse.

If Vincent D'Onofrio and Chris Hemsworth appear together onscreen together, there *better* be a joke about this movie.

"We finally meet, Mr. Fisk!"
"Huh, it's like looking in the mirror..."
"We look *nothing* alike!"
"Now, yes. But back in my day, before the baldness, we'd be indistinguishable..."
Kingpin of Crime: the Early Years

Vincent D’Onofrio as “Thor” in Adventures in Babysitting (1987).

Hell of a Summer

A bunch of counselors arrive at a camp for a week of prep before the kids arrive. Each is obnoxious in their own way, but Jason (main character) is beyond cringy. Soon the counselors are being murdered and they ineptly try to survive. Everyone, especial Jason, is a suspect.
