It’s not just a right, it’s a responsibility!
Just a quick reminder that it’s okay for US citizens to criticize their own government.

In fact, it’s one of our most fundamental rights.
Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL) melted down and threatened Olympians after several athletes representing the United States openly criticized President Donald Trump's administration and the current state of America.

Bring Her Back
This is the movie that stuck with me the most. It hits on several levels by blending primal moments of horror that make you recoil with profoundly tragic elements of loss, abuse, guilt, grief, and the knowledge things can’t be set right.

Weapons
Told out of order, the perspective shifts allow the ambiguity of the horror to weigh you down and keep you disjointed. When the truth is revealed, it’s unexpected, bizarre, and gives us a new horror icon. It’s an instant genre classic.

The Rule of Jenny Pen
The loss control and cognition to age is terrifying, and someone weaponizing that to torment others just for kicks is evil. The trailers made this look supernatural, but reality is far more horrifying. Lithgow and Rush are great.

Sinners
Amazing film. The music transcending time scene is one of the most incredibly powerful scenes ever. The vampires a metaphor works well too, but the movie leading up to that is so good that I feel the horror detracts from my overall enjoyment.

Strange Harvest
One of the best found footage films in years. It examines the hunt for Mr. Shiny a bizarre, vicious serial killer with motives rooted in the occult. While there are some found footage faux pas, the story and horror will keep you hooked.

The Ugly Stepsister
A delightfully twisted & revolting take on Cinderella that tells the tale from the perspective of Elvira—a stepsister who takes extreme measures to become beautiful enough to win the prince’s heart. A great semi-comedic body horror.

Bone Lake
A great thriller about two couples that rent the same house. It’s obvious that one pair set it up to mess with the other, eschewing the obvious twist for far more demented reveals. It goes hard in its final act and deserves more attention.

Good Boy
The film’s premise—a haunting from a dog’s perspective—is executed masterfully. Although the ghost stuff is fairly standard, the way it’s presented is unique, suspenseful in a different way, and instantly memorable. Indy deserves an award!

Silent Night, Deadly Night
SHOCKINGLY good, the biggest surprise of 2025, and the only franchise film on my list. It clearly loves the original but alters the plot and characters enough to make something different, clever, fun, fresh, and satisfying.

Shelby Oaks
This film didn’t get much love but I liked how the found footage part set up the rest of it. The ensuing mystery is suspenseful, creepy and disturbing, albeit a bit predictable. It goes all in on the supernatural. That might be a drawback.

Honorable Mentions

Frankenstein: Beautiful and well performed, but very disappointing. If Del Toro loves the book so much why SO MANY pointless changes?

Companion: Great concept. It gave me cognitive dissonance as I rooted for the AI bot to kill the humans.

Top 10 Horror Movies of 2025

Before the best I want to give you my 3 worst. To be fair I didn’t watch every horror release in 2025. I intentionally avoided stuff I knew would be bad, like Strangers 2, the Popeye and Micky crap, and The Ritual, so there were probably worse horror movies.

My Top 10 Horror Movies of 2025

There are several contenders for the best horror film of 2025. Some gained mainstream recognition, others were innovative or nice surprises. This year went unabashedly all in on the witchy & supernatural. This makes sense; real-life horror is on the rise. #horror2025

So, if I'm following all this correctly, a bunch of internet shitposters who spent years screaming "don't tread on me" and warning about federal agents stomping out people's rights... have been hired as ICE agents to go around breaking into people's homes, kidnapping & shooting them
