Not that artists have ever been paid well (except celebrities) but this further cements how much the devaluing of arts and humanities in favor of STEM is destroying our culture.
If you think society can survive without culture… I hope you have some good apocalypse skills.

I just got my royalty statement for The Actual Star for the first half of 2025. Four years after publication, it sold 492 new copies, for a take-home royalty payment of $425.46 USD.

Not even a 1$ a book.
Not that artists have ever been paid well (except celebrities) but this further cements how much the devaluing of arts and humanities in favor of STEM is destroying our culture.

So awesome. The Southern Reach trilogy reissue covers come in at #1 as rated by designers, over at LitHub. I'm proud of my great streak of amazing covers. Sometimes the publisher hits a home run first time out. In this case, I suggested Pablo Delcan and I'm glad it worked out so well.

For me, the most incredible artefacts from the ancient world are the letters people wrote on clay tablets and sent to one another over thousands of years in Mesopotamia, going back to more than 5,000 years ago.

#Authors I don’t know who needs to hear this, but please don’t give up! Even genre-defining writers got rejected. Frank Herbert’s Dune got rejected 23 times. The 1 company that finally took a chance was an auto repair manual publisher.
