This would be such a significant development. You may think about norovirus as a "cruise nuisance" but it can be very severe and life-changing in a large slice of immunodeficient patients (even if we could not guarantee their immunity with the vaccine, reducing transmission could help).
In the US alone, each year, norovirus causes ~20 million acute gastroenteritis cases, 70,000 hospitalizations, up to 800 deaths, at a cost of ~$10.6 billion annually.
An pill vaccine shows considerable promise in a clinical trial, establishing mucosal immunity

An oral norovirus vaccine tablet was safe and elicited mucosal immunity in older adults in a phase 1b clinical trial
An oral norovirus vaccine tablet is safe and induces strong mucosal and systemic immune responses in adults aged 55 to 80 years.

West Texas measles outbreak latest count: 159

Looks to be slowing down. CDC sent out a response team this week, too, which will hopefully help even more.

These days are so intense but honored to present and to moderate sessions, and happy to see colleagues and friends. In a time where science is being tested to limits not previously seen, it is reassuring to see so many brilliant people together and that we are, for now, in great hands. #AAAAI25

Had an incredible time in beautiful San Diego at our annual AAAAI meeting, this time a joint congress with WAO (with the extra pride of seeing Portuguese Professor Mário Morais de Almeida as WAO president). #AAAAI25
