studying how agriculture and climate interactions will impact our future
Today I visited the National Museum of the American Indian, and I was deeply disappointed by the history it chose to display.

No secret that the reason companies like OpenAI intentionally hide their energy and environment metrics is because they look very, very, very, very bad and the company is more valuable if the damage they do is kept secret
OpenAI will not disclose GPT-5’s energy use. It could be higher than past models
Experts working to benchmark resource use of AI models say new version’s enhanced capabilities come at a steep cost

The thing is, frugality is also crucial to address climate change, and important for health too!
A University of Portsmouth study finds that personal values such as frugailty, fairness, solidarity, and a dislike of waste are more likely to inspire sustainable food choices than warnings about climate change or health.

It's fun how capitalists say "we can't have socialism because people don't trust the state!" Mate, we don't trust the state because it is captured by capital and serves the interest of the capitalist class. It is precisely *because* of capitalism that no one trusts the state.

Parisians voted on a proposal to block 500 streets to traffic and replace asphalt with plants and trees. 😍
Paris votes on making 500 streets car-free, in test for green city policies
Mayor Anne Hidalgo has floated a plan to “revegetate” 500 Parisian streets to make the city more liveable. Critics say it would deepen divides between urbanites and commuters.

"Adoption of the EAT–Lancet planetary health diet by 54 high-income nations (68% of global GDP, 17% of pop.) could reduce annual ag production emissions of high-income nations’ diets by 61% while sequestering ~ 98.3 GtCO2e = 14 years of current global ag emissions until natural vegetation matures."
Excellent turn of phrase - "double climate dividend" - in this paper by @paulbehrens.bsky.social et al.

Shifting high-meat diets toward plants benefits the climate in 2 ways:
1. Reducing emissions from ag production
2. Reducing ag land needs, enabling ecosystem restoration/avoiding deforestation 🧪
Rich nations could see ‘double climate dividend’ by switching to plant-based foods - Carbon Brief
Adopting a more plant-based diet could give rich countries a “double climate dividend” of lower emissions and more land for capturing carbon, a new study says.

Crops are also harmed by ground-level ozone (as is human health), and much of it is produced from methane. Methane emissions, mostly from livestock farming and fossil fuels, keep increasing in the atmosphere, and thus ground-ozone too. www.eea.europa.eu/en/analysis/...

John 1:3 - “All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made”

My passion for the environment stems from my love of God’s creations. It’s essential to restore the land as He intended and protect all things within it. #RewildTheChurch !!
Breaking: 200-strong Climate Choir stages flashmob in St Paul's Cathedral, demanding that @churchofengland.org - a top ten UK landowner - #rewild 30% of its land.

Nature is in crisis. Time to #RewildTheChurch!

The Colorado river is drying up solely because we heavily irrigate it to grow feed for livestock.

Likewise, about 90% of Amazon deforestation is due to growing food for cattle.
