Washington, DC — The U.S. Department of Justice has reportedly opened an investigation into Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey over allegations they obstructed federal law enforcement operations during recent immigration enforcement actions in the state. According to Fox News, which cited two sources familiar with the matter, federal prosecutors are reviewing whether Walz and Frey impeded Immigration and Customs Enforcement activity during what the Department of Homeland Security has described as its largest enforcement operation in Minnesota, resulting in more than 2,500 arrests. The report said the inquiry is in its early stages and may not lead to criminal charges. Walz responded publicly, accusing the Trump administration of politicizing federal law enforcement. In a post on X, the governor said targeting political opponents through investigations amounts to an “authoritarian tactic.” Walz also argued that attention has been misdirected away from the federal agent involved in the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good during an ICE raid earlier this month. Walz’s office said it has not received formal notice of any investigation. The probe follows heightened tensions after the Jan. 7 shooting, which sparked protests across Minneapolis and St. Paul.
