I didn't play a lot of games this year but we did finally play Disco Elysium, which I can honestly say the hype is true, the hype is real, this game fucks. I am simply astounded on every level. Also I didn't expect it to be so incredibly funny?? Maybe the most well written game I've ever played

Incredibly good joke
BLUESKY PRISON BLUES

There's Bluesky elders postin'
with fancy blue-check names
They're probably dunkin' on headlines
and sharin' lefty memes

Well, I know I had it comin'
I know I can't be free
But those people keep a-skeetin'
and that's what tortures me

In "Fish: a tap essay", Robin Sloan writes about how one way to show love on the internet, as opposed to just “liking,” is by revisiting things.

I just returned to one of my fav spots in DC: Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens. Saw egrets, herons, osprey, and many lotuses. 🪷

What (IRL or online) do you love to return to?

James Gunn seems to have learned a lesson from the Raimi Spider-Man movies: show regular people reacting to disaster and the emotions of the danger hit so much harder.

I keep thinking about that woman holding her turtle.

It's frustrating that ANC meetings are so long, and the minutes are approved months later.

However, new AI tools make it much easier to stay on top of what's happening in these meetings. I took the YouTube transcript and meeting agenda and created a summary:

Amazing thread
Thread of Robin Hood characters drawings!

First up: Robin Hood! "Unfairly/trecherously displaced noble" Robin is a later invention to make the stories more palatable to a moneyed audience; in the best versions he's a charismatic yeoman (i.e. commoner not legally tied to a noble's land) trickster.

"We must have fast, frequent, reliable, and dignified transit from east of the river to downtown through the H Street and Benning Road corridor."

Hell yes
OPINION: "The District has, for two decades, slowly backed away from almost every project meant to address the problem of poor connectivity in this corridor, leaving riders waiting unsheltered in the rain for overcrowded and slow buses."
