Today is the birthday of writer & artist Russ Manning (Jan. 5, 1929-Dec. 1, 1981). He is most remembered for creating Magnus, Robot Fighter, and his work on the Tarzan comic book and newspaper strip, as well as the Star Wars newspaper strip.

Milton Caniff's last page on the comic strip Terry and the Pirates, which was published on December 29, 1946.
In this eleven panel Sunday strip, Terry says a very awkward goodbye to Jane. She starts to walk to her plane but then runs back through the snow to give him a big kiss to Terry. Then she slowly turns to board her plane and Terry waves goodbye. He walks away, past a sign for a New Year's party that reads "Ring out the old, and ring in the new."

Santa Claus volunteers to help a weakened Superman defeat Toyman and replace all the fake toys before Christmas morning comes.
