This is a good decision, tactical launch weapons via f-35a was always way out on cost-benefit.

We definitely do need to look at costing to restore our previous mixed capability. If only we had a gorgeous British delivery mechanism....

Either disingenuity reaches bold new heights, or there is a fundamental disconnect with reality on the Labour right.

Begs the question, why send MPs out with clear instructions not to answer questions about this, and thus make them and the Party look like moronic quislings?

There are few people in Labour, and even less in on the broader centre/left, willing to spend the money on Defence to provide a clean break from the US.

Anyone promoting leaving NATO unilaterally alongside conventional/nuclear disarmament isn't interested in defending the country from Russia.

It does make me sad that the Blairites (actual ones) seem to have learned nothing from the mistakes we made on the special relationship.

Inability to recognise the damage their obsession has on us with the public but also partner nations.

Theres such a thing as a critical friend diplomatically.

The problem with corporate-esq double speak in politics; is that everyone reads into it what they want. And when youre unpopular, whay they want is another reason to dislike you...

Great framing.
Donald Trump’s unconstitutional military action in Venezuela is putting our troops in harm's way with no long-term strategy.

The American people deserve a President focused on making their lives more affordable.

There you have it. Hes confirmed they're entirely committed to the Monroe doctrine.

Thats why hes washing his hands of Europe, why hes obsessed with Greenland.

Republican party is being run by Hearts of Iron obsessed 4chan users.

Like the Greek-city states in the twilight of the Hellenistic era; European Democracies have a choice: Unite and retain independence. Or be divided by the new powers of the world.

Today's events show the rules based international order is dead. We're back to pre-war Great Power competition.
January 3, 2026 at 4:50 PM
What it's all really about. Constitutional war powers and the role of the commander in chief, are the bedrock of the Imperial presidency that the republican right have wanted since Nixon.

Make no mistake this is another step in the consolidation of Trumps power. Democrats have got to fight back.
Trump on Democrats: "They should say 'great job.' They shouldn't say, 'Oh gee, maybe it's not constitutional.' You know, the same old stuff that we've been hearing for years and years and years."
January 3, 2026 at 3:09 PM
Actually the prime minister waiting for the statment from the president and conversations with the white house to take place is the right thing to do and just because the president and your mates post instantly on twitter doesn't mean thats what the prime minister should do.

But you see they are the real patriots. In the 80s sense.

Patriotism is when you talk the talk while entirely giving in to corporate interests.

Why would the media ecosystem oppose a party promising massive tax cuts and slashing workers rights. We even let them have a 24hr news channel now.
At some point the 'realignment' in British politics is going to come under severe pressure on the issue of national security and global conflict. It is not possible to be patriotic/nationalist and also pro-Trump/pro-Putin.

She committed grave crimes and we should have faith in our own judicial system to punish those crimes.

We should not dump her on another country where those people suffered terribly because of the crimes she endorsed and participated in- when that country wishes to deport her. It’s immoral.
A vulnerable child was groomed and trafficked and then subjected to the most shocking experiences imaginable including the deaths of her babies.

Instead of taking responsibility the British establishment stripped her of her citizenship and dumped her like old rubbish.

Is Netflix capable of bringing an original series to a good end point?

I can't think of one example. Maybe Bojack?

There are some galaxy brains in the party who genuinely thought they could monopolise the centre with the collapse of the Tory party, and that building reform up would only help them in this goal.

Forgetting entirely that none of our existing voter coalition isnt on the soc-con centre right.
Well, indeed. An ideological project whose ideology is “we have the wrong voters” is ending with no voters.

Polanski calling Burnham 'a political chameleon' is weapons grade sanctimony.

The irony of this being him swallowing whole breifing from #10, in an interview about not trusting Starmer is also amusing.

It’s worth mentioning, though it’s been said repeatedly: the Lizzie Line carries 1/6th of UK daily rail passengers (not including the Tube) and has already paid off its entire costs.

And if HS2 had been committed to, without plans being tweaked every 5 minutes, Phase 1 would be opening next year.

This is absolutely a viable path to welfare reform, and one we should pursue. It's the sort of long term thinking we promised in 2024!
Britain’s welfare system is unsustainable.

Today in the New Statesman I argue for a reset built on dignity, work & structural reform on housing and health policy.

The Treasury & OBR must start modelling savings over longer horizons.

These technologies can and are being used to create lifelike images and videos of actual living women and girls. For what I think are pretty obvious gendered civil rights reasons, it needs to be a recognized civil cause of action to create an AI image or avatar of a woman without her consent.
"And I never say no"

We need to have a serious talk about the way "AI companion" apps not only prey on the vulnerable, but are priming their users to ignore consent and to conflate love with control.

We need AI regulations across so many sectors, but this area is particularly horrifying.
