My brief take on the Metroid discourse: I’m much more excited about it because reviews are all over the place. More games should be weird and polarizing. Seeing the “instant classic” tag as often as “it’s a real disappointment” makes me so stoked.

Rolled credits on Outer Wilds 2 tonight. Largely enjoyed it. Story was interesting enough but opposite Avowed I find it quite thin. Progression felt weightless, particularly after I found a heavier machine gun. Status effects felt pointless, armor style less gameplay impact. Kinda just fine!

It’s one of the great final acts I’ve ever played. I can respect not loving the combat (turn based haters are nerds that deserve swirlies but whatever) or whatever else but disliking the finale is insane to me.
Seeing other narrative design people say that Clair Obscur had a bad 3rd act or bad ending(s)…I just can’t follow you there man. That shit ruled. Sorry. You break the combat wide fucking open and then get your choice of doing genocide or walking toward Omelas and saying “torturing that child rocks”

Additional point: Clair Obscur's third act is a thematic loop about how delaying the inevitable isn't healthy. You may feel temporarily good, you might even feel like a God among ants, but all you're doing is becoming a rotting husk and running away from inevitability.

Michigan/OSU from 2006 remains maybe the greatest football game I’ve ever seen. And all stakes would have been stripped if we got that today. And it really really blows. OSU should have missed the playoff last year.
