Glad to join for the first time the Plant Microbiome Symposium #PMS2025. Looking forward to a week full of interesting talks and inspiring discussions. I will present a poster on Thursday about synergistic effects between resident microbes and inoculants for improved maize performance under drought.

Hot off the press!! At my exchange at @niab-uk.bsky.social, we found some interesting patterns in how root hairless wheat will use its microbiome (bacteria + fungi) to improve its phosphorus uptake.
The results in one sentence: bacteria may be cool, but AMF are the superstar!
Wheat responds to lack of root hairs with recruitment of bacteria harboring P mineralization genes and increased arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi arbuscularisation https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2025.08.26.672279v1

Ecology-based approach to predict no-effect antibiotic concentrations for minimizing environmental selection of resistance
Abstract. Selection for antibiotic resistance has been demonstrated at low, environmentally relevant antibiotic concentrations. The concept of minimum sele

Instead of over-applying fertilizers all over the place, Lingyun Cheng suggests applying small patches into the soil to improve nutrition and root growth. Sticking a microbe in there helps offset the resulting over-accumulation of ethylene #rhizosphere6:

Rhizosphere bacteria containing ACC deaminase decrease root ethylene emission and improve maize root growth with localized nutrient supply
It is useful to explore the strategy of soil–crop management by introducing rhizobacteria to regulate plant ethylene signal and then benefit sustainable agriculture. Localized nutrient supply can enh....

Hey Network, today I will present the results from my postdoc to Rhizosphere 6, 11:40 am, Edinburgh. I will speak about field-scale and greenhouse experiments, drought-effects, and of course synergistic interactions between inoculated and resident plant-beneficial microorganisms under drought.
We are excited to attend the #Rhizosphere6 conference in Edinburgh. Don't miss the presentation of @jonkampouris.bsky.social on Monday 16th June 11:40am (session Rhizosphere Microbiome-Function BC2) and the poster presentation by Andrea Braun-Kiewnick on Monday 16th June 5pm!

This is was a wonderful data paper led by Marie Raab, that I had the honor to be co-auhtor. A beutiful work from the projects BioTrain and DiControl! She compiled all data generated from Bernburg long-term experiment 1992,including soil physicochemical , plant, and microbial data!!
New publication out describing data collection since 2004 in a Central Germany field trial with contrasting tillage and fertilization. Data comprises soil nutrients, microbiome, plant gene expression, yield @doreenbabin.bsky.social

This year I am presenting in #VAAM 2025 a piece of my work as a postdoc in @agmicro-lab.bsky.social led by @doreenbabin.bsky.social, with a focus on drought stress and interactions of inoculated plant-BMs with the resident rhizosphere microbiome.
