"At the trial of God, we will ask: why did you allow all this?
And the answer will be an echo: why did you allow all this?"

Crushing story out of Syracuse. Just one of thousands these days.
Must-read story about a French man in Syracuse trapped in his shop with ICE outside. The whole community, including a state senator, figured out how to get him out. Canadian border officials let him book a flight to France on the spot and escape.
When ICE came for Jeremy, Syracuse’s underground railroad helped him escape the country
Friends and family helped a well-known Syracuse man elude detention and flee to France

Dapper French teen behind Louvre heist 'Fedora Man' photo embraces his mystery moment
The image showing him in a fedora and three-piece suit sparked heated online speculation that he was a detective involved in the investigation into the audacious robbery of the priceless items.

Without the journalists who do the work everyday, corporate news media entities don't have a product. The future is non-profit journalism and these professionals should absolutely band together and form non-profit outlets.
Other folks have said it, but let me just note that:

(1) lots of talented, must-read journalists have been let go from their jobs over the last year

(2) millions of Americans are abandoning current media outlets and looking for new alternatives

Seems like a sure-fire business opportunity here?

50 years ago today.
The SS Edmund Fitzgerald was lost 50 years ago today — around the time Gordon Lightfoot was at work on a new album.

An experienced Great Lakes sailor who knew those waters well, he later told NPR he was surprised that media coverage gave “short shrift for such a monumental event.”

Amazing thread on the distinctions among four overcoats, from off-the-rack to bespoke. (And Rochester gets a major nod for the legendary clothing factory here.)

Fall is here and many of you may be shopping for an overcoat.

Let me show what you can get as you move up the price ladder. 🧵
Here are four overcoats.

— Which do you think is the most expensive?
— Which do you think is the least expensive?
— Which do you think provides the best value?

Answer below. Tomorrow, I will show what you get as you climb up the price ladder for overcoats.

"Well, if you spoke Greek..." 😂
My advice to would-be prescriptivists:

• Choose your battles.
• Don’t pick all the most classist “well, if you spoke Greek, you’d know this” battles.
• Know what you’re talking about before you talk about it.

(Reuters) - Meta internally projected late last year that it would earn about 10% of its overall annual revenue – or $16 billion – from running advertising for scams and banned goods, internal company documents show.
