Your friend/cartoonist! Dear Creature, The New Deal, Little Monarchs, Over the Garden Wall(s). + BatSTUFF, The Creep, Green River Killer, etc.. www.jonathancase.net
Occasionally I do family portraits for people in a cartooned way — it’s a fun alternative to photography if you’re thinking of hiring someone for this kind of service. This is a crew from whom I bought our new old Land Cruiser (they happened to be art fans, so we worked a partial trade).

It takes a long time to write what’s valuable to me. Sometimes years of mess, like building a kite from potato peels. The peels can speak. They say: “You’re not a writer, my guy. Please stop.” Then comes a week where the wind catches my potato kite, and it’s in the sky, and I just have to hold on.

Amazing
13, who will be 14 in 2 weeks, last night: I'm reading this book but...

Me: What's wrong?

13: I don't want to talk about it

Me: You don't like it?

13, running up the stairs to his room: NO I LOVE IT

Me, tidying his room today: Omg now I'm crying a lil

Try to figure out how a scene could work with no dialogue, and then taking breaks, imagine it a couple more times until you get to the most interesting way to show it play out. Now you're telling the story visually. Reward yourself with the possibility of some dialogue
Following up on my portfolio critique list: Any of you comics writers who teach feel like coming up with a list of 12 Things You Would Probably Tell an Aspiring Writer about their Comic Script?
Great idea! I'm not the guy to do it, but I'm sure it could be done: "The story starts on page three." "The protagonist's efforts would be more compelling if you established what the stakes are if she fails" etc.

But we need three more weeks of it. 😁

Good morning, friends! I explored Mercer Slough in Bellevue, WA in the early hours today. Would recommend. A great blue heron let me pass within 5 feet… He just stood there staring at me like the Gregory Peck Police Officer of birds. Also: bullfrogs, falcons, and curious ducklings.

JAWS really is the quintessential* 4th of July movie that shows you America. Everyone is stressed out about money and jobs while a giant shark keeps picking us off and it's going to take three people from very different backgrounds in a boat to end this

*Quint-Essential, nice

Probably RIP to the Little Monarchs tour-mobile.

Just last month (of course) I personally replaced the suspension and diff fluids, which was a big deal for mechanically-disinclined me.

Fortunately nobody was hurt. Even the pine tree on Mt. Bachelor shrugged it off.

For the morning crowd!

I love when I can make people happy with commissions. Single figures like this are $200 — watercolors also available.

You can add customization to your order, too: multiple figures, background elements, text, etc..
