It’s been a quiet start to the season as regards runners for us so it was wonderful on Thursday when the two evergreen 9yos Hidden Pearl & Dereham each had their first run of 2025 in the same 1 mile & 6 furlong handicap at Yarmouth, and finished 1st & 2nd, both starting at 14/1. A very special day.

Chester’s excellent May Meeting this week, a racecourse at which they have been racing since 1539, making it Britain’s oldest racecourse. This photograph of Richard Hughes inside Chester’s weighing room I took 467 years later in 2006 - fairly recently you could say, in Chester Racecourse time!
