“Analysts said profits from the freight network helped offset losses from passenger high-speed rail.”

The problem with the Western mindset: Everything must turn a profit. Gone is the recognition that sometimes essential services should lose money to improve society and spur more economic activity.

Watching #CSPAN’s coverage of the life & death of #RevJesseJackson, & his speeches from when he ran for President show how he was truly a unwavering champion on progressive issues, decades before others.
Disappointing that all the Dems who posted about his death did so on the openly fascist #X.
One of my most visceral childhood memories is seeing Jesse Jackson speak during his ‘88 presidential run at a pow wow in Arlee, Montana. Not a lot of other presidential candidates showed up in Arlee.
Before there was Bernie, there was Jesse: showing up seemingly every time workers battled for a better deal on the job and a more just social order. Nobody fused the perspectives of race and class, nor battled more consistently for the claims of both, than Jesse Jackson. buff.ly/Ycz1CeH

My heart goes out to the family of Jesse Jackson and our entire country that mourns his loss.

Jesse Jackson was a giant. A civic leader who led by example and had a gift for the spoken word. His teachings of unity and love are more important than ever as we navigate these turbulent times.

Sure. is. interesting.
