To me this was a highlight of the @nebriefing.bsky.social

A vital perspective from an "establishment source", traditionally listened to by the right-wing, from a sector that knows how to handle risks, threats and emergencies.

Well worth a listen.
Lt General Richard Nugee CB CVO CBE, a recently retired senior army officer, explaining why the climate crisis threatens national security.

"We are facing the potential of 𝗮𝗻 𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 unless Government takes this seriously"

Sadly, I'm kind of used to >1700 dead after flooding in SE Asia & it not being high-profile in UK news.

But potentially 100 000 under evacuation orders in USA & it's still barely registering. We have normalised the climate crisis so quickly (BBC don't mention climate)

Though @financialtimes.com do add "even a temporary “overshoot” of the 1.5C level .... would impact food, water & nature, & displace populations, with long-lasting consequences even if temperatures later drop"
My worry is many in UK think this is just far away places with no consequence for them
December 9, 2025 at 12:00 PM
Media always want brevity. A shame @financialtimes.com cut my quote on @nebriefing.bsky.social & what warming means for things that matter, e.g. UK food supply & national security. And that action is a long-term financial opportunity despite small short-term cost.

Tragic. I don't know how much is defendable at Hemsby, but we need a serious, public & open conversation in UK about what we do when people's homes become uninsurable & undefendable.
“What do I do now for a home? I'm homeless.”

Hemsby is collapsing to the climate crisis and government inaction. Yet the people who did the least to cause this are paying the price. We're taking legal action to force Starmer to step up:
