Watched the first ep of #StarTrek #StarfleetAcademy
While it’s too early to really know, this seems like Trek’s finally going in the right direction. TBH I was ready to hate the show (hate DIS & THE BURN & 30th century starships) & I won’t enjoy the teen angst but the spirit seems to be coming back

This is what comes from Star Trek ditching sci fi stories of scientific exploration & philosophical questions in favor of militarism & dumb action & 3 wars & 5 movies abt revenge by terror attack w/ new weapons.

Unlike Discovery, which brought Trek back to tv with yet another war, DS9 showed us the utopian UFP before plunging them into war. DIS gave lip service to Starfleet (& Trek’s) ideals, but we didn’t see them until their last season.

When my son considered watching DS9 I told him he might get not want to start with season 1. Then I did a rewatch & I told him I was 100% wrong. They do a lot of really cool stuff in S1, but they also plant the seeds to great story & character arcs that gird the whole series.

I’d add a couple of WARNINGS:
First, watch whatever however you want, but I would rethink watching DIS/PROD/LD/SNW before the 60s-90s shows. The new shows (sometimes heavily) reference the older shows, & kind of spoil some things

On the other hand, sports and superheroes are mostly wish fulfillment/power fantasies.
If Superman did show up now—so what? Would he stop Trump from lying or stealing our healthcare or sending masked thugs into cities? Honestly, what we really need are more LOIS LANES.

I love the MCU & Gunn’s Superman movie. I don’t buy superhero comics anymore b/c I don’t have time/money/space for them, but they’re FUN

I go both ways on the subject.
I love the MCU & Gunn’s Superman movie. I don’t buy superhero comics anymore b/c I don’t have time/money/space for them, but they’re FUN
