Our paper describing the structure of the non-muscle myosin 2A motor domain is now online. Based on the new structure, we used MD simulations to understand mechanochemical differences between the NM2 paralogues.

Structure of the Human Non-Muscle Myosin 2A Motor Domain: Insights into Isoform-Specific Mechanochemistry
Non-muscle myosin 2A (NM2A) is the predominant myosin isoform in non-muscle cells. Together with its paralogues NM2B and NM2C, NM2A enables tension and force generation, driving essential cellular pro...

The latest paper from our group on rare actin-associated diseases is now online. Using a combination of in silico and in vitro experiments and analysis of patient-derived cells, Anja shows how changes to the actin methylation pattern may drive disease.

The β-actin G74S mutation causes altered interaction of actin with SETD3, reducing histidine-73 methylation efficiency and forming two distinct actin variants. The variable ratio of these variants ac....

In our new preprint, we investigated how proteins of the SH3BGRL protein family (very cryptic name), which consist almost exclusively of the thioredoxin fold but lack the catalytic motif, can modulate actin dynamics.

The SH3BGRL protein family nucleates and caps actin filaments via its conserved thioredoxin fold
Cellular actin polymerization is a tightly regulated process, typically controlled by proteins with specialized domains such as the Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome protein homology 2 (WH2) domain. Here, we i...

"On October 8, 1931, a law went into effect requiring, as a condition of their employment, every Italian university professor to sign an oath pledging their loyalty to the government of Benito Mussolini. Out of over 1,200 professors in the country, only 12 refused."

Asgard archaea have actin - but what about microtubules? Where do they come from? 🧐 Our new paper www.cell.com/cell/fulltex... by @xujwet.bsky.social & @florianwollweber.bsky.social, in collaboration with the Schleper & Wieczorek labs, describes tiny Asgard microtubules! #TeamTomo #ArchaeaSky 1/6
