I really, really hated #wickedforgood, particularly because of its open love of authoritarianism, which I wrote about for @denofgeek.bsky.social:

The Wicked Ending’s Fundamental Flaw
Wicked: For Good ends for the worse with a finale that condescends to its viewers.

Wicked: For Good: I don't remember the last time I saw a non-superhero, big Hollywood blockbuster that hates the people and loves authoritarianism this much. And at least superhero movies pretend to question their strong men, instead of giving fascist collaborators sympathetic musical numbers.

I liked Edgar Wright’s #therunningman but apparently I have a TOTALLY different read on the ending than everyone else. My review for @denofgeek.bsky.social: www.denofgeek.com/movies/the-r...
The Running Man Review: Edgar Wright Reinvents Stephen King for the Post-Truth Age
Edgar Wright tries to balance spectacular thrills of Arnold Schwarzenegger blockbusters with Stephen King at his most cynical. The result is nothing short of entertainment.

For @denofgeek.bsky.social, I reviewed #frankenstein, Guillermo del Toro's (mostly pretty good!) retelling of the classic horror tale: www.denofgeek.com/movies/frank...
Frankenstein Review: Guillermo del Toro Reconstructs a Classic Monster in His Own Image
Netflix's imminent Frankenstein is a movie monster that only Guillermo del Toro could make with such love.

At this point, offing a kid in a movie isn't the big shock filmmakers seem to think it is, as I get cranky about for @denofgeek.bsky.social: www.denofgeek.com/movies/it-we...
Horror's Greatest Taboo Isn't Taboo If Everyone's Doing It
Killing a child on screen used to be shocking. Now it's just dull.

I really liked #theblackphone2, and not just because it has a 77s song over the credits (but also because it has a 77s song over the credits). My review for @denofgeek.bsky.social: www.denofgeek.com/movies/black...
Black Phone 2 Review: A Slasher Sequel with Icy Kills and a Fiery Ethan Hawke
Scott Derrickson and Ethan Hawke serve up chilly scares and moral outrage in a worthy Black Phone 2.

I was not expecting to hear THE SEVENTY SEVENS (!!!) over the credits of a horror movie in the year 2025!

(the rest of #theblackphone2 is pretty darn good too. full review coming this week at den of geek)

Keaton's passing gave me reason to revisit her infamous episode of #twinpeaks. The story still really stinks, but a) none of that was her fault and b) she really directs it well. So I wrote about it for @denofgeek.bsky.social: www.denofgeek.com/tv/diane-kea...
Diane Keaton Directed the Most Lynchian Episode of Twin Peaks
Diane Keaton's infamous Twin Peaks episode was something no one else could make, not even David Lynch.

For @denofgeek.bsky.social, I went long on the ending of #onebattleafteranother and its depiction of the human love that charges the ongoing fight against White Supremacy: www.denofgeek.com/movies/one-b...

Coming home from One Battle After Another to watch the latest Peacemaker really underscored that pop culture is recognizing that White Supremacy is inextricable from American power and is enforced by the police (or police stand-ins in Peacemaker).

We shouldn't be surprised that kids are less interested in Batman because very few good Batman stories have been made for kids in the past decade. Which is a problem, because Batman (like all superheroes) is fundamentally for kids (for @denofgeek.bsky.social): www.denofgeek.com/movies/forgo...
Have We Forgotten Batman Is for Kids?

For @denofgeek.bsky.social, I wrote a little bit about my favorite Robert Redford performance, in Sneakers: www.denofgeek.com/movies/sneak...

For @denofgeek.bsky.social, I ranked the #startrek crews from worst to best which, like most franchise-wide articles I write, is kind of a rough draft for an article I'm going to eventually write about how Carol Freeman is the best Starfleet captain: www.denofgeek.com/tv/star-trek...

Brad Pitt and Kevin Spacey get all the attention in that last scene of #seven, but Morgan Freeman is doing incredible acting there, and throughout the movie. I wrote about it for @denofgeek.bsky.social: www.denofgeek.com/movies/seven...
