What’s the point of knowing anything if AI does it for you? Are we all just glorified button pushers? Does the law of leaky abstractions disappear?

I rant about this and more in my latest podcast

Hallelujah! The glorious savior of mankind, AGI, will arrive from the sky at any moment! But it's very expensive, so y'all need to keep sending us regular donations. Have faith!

The Al industry these days feels a lot like televangelism.

Also, “AGI will be here at any moment!”

Oh yeah, we’re doing a book club at the Practical Data Community!
The first book will be Kill It With Fire:
Manage Aging Computer Systems (and Future Proof Modern Ones)

This book has been on my TBR list for like 3 years now, and is pretty popular in the civic tech community. Check it out! I’m starting Chapter 1 today 😁

What happens when two data engineering authors meet? Total nerding out on the craft of writing.

@ssp.sh and I chat about technical writing and much more.

Is dating hard for you right now? Don’t despair. Pick up a copy of Fundamentals of Data Engineering, and you’ll be in love with your soul mate before day’s end.

Better than any dating app or aphrodisiac.

I hear about self-muzzling a lot, especially from executives. Please grow a pair.
i’ve often had men and women who had more power than me in a situation come up to me after i said the shit that had to be said and thank me

and i hope you know i hold you in all in deep contempt
One thing I am sick to death of is guys telling me on private backchannels that it's really cool how I speak up, because they "could never do that".
