I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.

Must read, seriously. The negative impact of AI on juniors and their ability to learn and grow has been a major questioning for me since GenAI started. Our industry is shooting itself in the foot, and this will have ripple effects for many years.
Wrote a lot of thoughts on junior developers, AI, and what I strongly feel is going to become the defining challenge of our industry's next generation.

I'm still writing code the hard way. I'm slow. I like to think critically about every line of code and fiddle with variable names until everything looks right. I treat code as a liability and try to ship only what's necessary.

It's hard to imagine writing code any other way.

“Pick the battles where you can actually change the outcome” I am learning to avoid wasting energy on useless battles, where whatever you do, nothing will change. Not every battle is worth fighting. 😌

Why Senior Engineers Let Bad Projects Fail
When I was a junior engineer, my manager would occasionally confide his frustrations to me in our weekly 1:1s. He would point out a project another team was working on and say, “I don’t believe that p...

I use it on my personal computer since 6 years, and I would never go back to Ubuntu. Something that is not mentioned in the post is that, as it is basically Arch, you can use the impressive arch wiki when you are in trouble. I learnt a lot with it.

This, combined with "vice signaling" (taking pride in antisocial behavior) has given us the reign of the Stupid Asshole, something most people are against, but can only be remedied if we're not too polite to talk about it
An essential development over the past decade-plus is that the ignorant went from feeling chastened when their ignorance was revealed to banding together and deciding that, actually, they were right. They might disagree at times, but they agreed that ignorance itself was an indicator of trust.
