stuff i'm enjoying: black mirror seems back to form. only watched the first 2 eps but i think it's way better than last season. the residence is a silly premise but it's actually a fun satire of detective shows and crazy eyes is a good actor.

it's come to my attention, after recently reading something i wrote over fifteen years ago, that my writing really really sucked back then. i apologize to anyone who i convinced, bribed, tricked or blackmailed into reading it.

i sincerely believe i've improved. my writing only really sucks now

First, they came for me.
A nameless worker. Disposable.
No severance, no outcry.
The cameras caught my exit,
but no one watched the footage.

Then, they came for my boss.
A man with money, lawyers, and leverage.
The board made a statement.
The news ran a segment.
Justice stirred from its nap.

i thought the half time show was mediocre but i appreciate the look of the cool new uncle sam and it seems like it mostly pissed off the correct people so hats off to it.

like so much in the AI space, this deepseek nonsense is all hype. yes they made it cheaply, based on the foundation of the breakthroughs that came before, the ones that took a lot more time and money. cheap computers, for example, would be nothing without the decades of expensive ones before them.

there is no contradiction with the two murderers today and how they were handled. this is exactly how the system was designed. the right wants a return to boss-hogg style centralized unelected authority to replace dwindling government and a billionaire is the ultimate form of that.

it's interesting how the holiday season plays so differently for people doing retail and server jobs. similarly to poor people doing internships, the offspring of wealthy people should earn a "badge" for doing one of these jobs for at least a year, including two holiday seasons.

aside from the murky career-destroying arguments against AI, which are plentiful, let's talk about whether this should be pursued from a philosophical standpoint. it's inevitable now, probably, but thar shouldn't stop us from talking about this.

if it turns out the shooter was denied health care and had only a certain amount of time to live, this whole situation is going to get pretty interesting very quickly. in fact it's conceivable that prison might be some people's only hope of getting help.

Two hundred+ years later we can't separate Frankenstein from his monster. we never could. Even when one of them is presented alone the other's always there, a shadow. The monster alone is defined by the way his creator treated him. Dr alone always judged by what he will create.
