It's chemistry and crafts allll the way down

We're concerned about the SRSR motion requesting 25 years of disaggregated tri-council data. While we understand the data is intended to be anonymized, this wasn't explicitly stated in the motion – and the specific information requested could still enable re-identification when linked together.

I agree about concern! I too am concerned, especially given the comments of the Committee members toward the funding agency reps in attendance.

My understanding is that the motion was passed based on the agreement of anonymity, so it will be held. The presiding chair of the committee (Liberal) would have the power to recall the motion if that agreement not held. We'd have to watch for the actual written request to Tri-Council to check

With a HUGE thanks to my brother who is invaluable for understanding nuances of politics and governmental motions and briefings

**I note, having now read the minutes, that the names of the applicants will be anonymized, but their identity data released. Reviewer identities should not be released per agreement on the floor, not reflected in written motion. The researcher identified to conduct the study is Julien Larregue.

Please consider signing this open letter to protect funding status and application information (including de-anonymized info on the evaluators/reviewers, entire contents of appllications, and EDI/identity data) from Tri-Council funding applications

Can writing a scientific paper for the first (or fourth. Or fortieth) be a battle? Yes.

But knowing how to approach the process and what your collaborators, supervisors, and journals expect from you during that process lowers the barrier immensely.

very cool to be at #wipc+2025 this week on behalf of @canjphysics.bsky.social
Very excited to be in Kingston @queensuglobal.bsky.social for the #wipc+2025 Conference.

CJP is hosting a lunch-and-learn today with info and activities related to publishing in physics. Join for some tips and tricks, and as much discussion as we can squeeze in.

interestingly, all the publishers' metadata already links any paper to every paper it cites (and vice versa); my fave tool for looking at these "citation webs" is Dimensions - find a paper by DOI (or any Boolean search) and then off you go down the wormhole! e.g. app.dimensions.ai/details/publ...

Oh HECK yes - FAIR data time! There are TWO physical sciences modules - math/physics/chem and Materials/Chem.

Phys. sci. communities are a bit late in the wave of Open Data and repositories, with the interesting exception of strict adherence and support for the CCDC - time to expand that window!
Join Ian Bruno for a free online session on FAIR data principles in Computational Materials Science and Chemistry, organised by Ghent University as part of the Love Data Week 2025 @icpsr.bsky.social.

It feels very inefficient and I don't think there's any way to reduce that number - unless anyone can convince my cat to like me or magically reduce the fire risk of anything touching the toaster.

Three separate appliances are currently holding temp at ~60 °C
1. Toaster oven, dehydrating seeds.
2. My heating pad.
3. My cat's heating pad, because he dislikes being near me during the day and if I turn it off he goes to sit directly on top of one of the few heating vents for the house.
