Our path to community energy started decades ago, and this week we took a huge step forward as the Government announced the launch of the Local Power Plan.

Now it's your turn. GB Energy wants to hear from you if you have a plan for local power. ⚡️

Very proud that a campaign I became involved in as a result of the fantastic Oldham Youth Council proposing #votesat16 as my 2017 Private Members Bill is now making its way into law.🌹
Bill to lower voting age to 16 to be introduced in Parliament
The government wants 16 and 17-year-olds to be able to vote at the next general election.

This was a horrific attack on a nurse who went to work everyday for two decades to care for patients.

The trauma goes beyond the serious injuries on that day, and my thoughts are with nurse Achamma Cherian, now thankfully back at work at The Royal Oldham Hospital.

The Final Local Government Finance Settlement gives councils stability - the first multiyear settlement for over a decade - and it finally gives recognition of deprivation as a driver for council demand and costs.

It is the start of rebuilding not the end. (1/5)

Ownership dictates how decisions are made and who benefits from them.

That’s why the Local Power Plan puts community and co-operative ownership at its heart, building an energy future that can never be taken away.

We back building good quality homes and strong communities.

We need urgent action to tackle the scourge of low quality HMOs blighting our neighbourhoods. Greater power in the hands of local people and councils. (1/2)

Oldham has never lacked the talent and potential, but it has been starved of opportunity for too long. (1/2)

Today’s Local Power Plan announcement is the biggest investment in community-owned energy in British history.

Our members have fought for years to put power and profit in community hands. Now that work will shape the future of energy ownership in the UK.⚡️

Good to see this rolled out across GM.

Too many kids are held back by homelessness.

We’re fighting back in Manchester, more social and council homes, stopping families in b&bs, funding prevention- that’s why we’re bucking the trend and *reducing* homelessness.

This will help in the meantime 👇🏼

The rise of HMOs are blighting communities across Oldham.

Landlords are getting richer at the cost of local communities who see neighbourhoods rapidly change, waste and parking pressures and a loss of much needed family homes.

Councils are battling, we need national action too.

I can see Raja Miah is rattled by this. Far better than him going after whistleblowers and others who challenge him 👍

The result of a lot of hard work from staff to deliver support to adults who need care and their carers.

Very challenging for all councils with social care responsibilities and a “Good” is fair recognition.

High streets have closed because distant landlords care more about their own profits than our communities.

The last Government broke high streets - you can fix them.
