Detail will be important but this is an important announcement. Since Osborne’s abolition of grants we’ve had the invidious situation where the poorest students have been getting more indebted than richer ones, who are supported by parents.

Targeted maintenance grants for students to be reintroduced
Disadvantaged students studying priority courses will benefit from extra financial support to access and excel in higher education.

1. Out of curiosity, I went through the feeds of some habitual tuna tormentors. I found they’re big on:
- fox hunting
- Reform UK
- antagonism to asylum seekers.
In other words, the same few antisocial (psychopathic?) men, turning up in all the bad places.

No10 spokesman not prepared to criticise anything about Farage speech today.

Not his description of "invasion", not his prediction that the UK on brink of civil war, not plans to pay the Taliban or Iran to take back migrants, or indeed to rule out doing so themselves.

I'm a big fan of central bank independence. So the attempt to fire Lisa Cook is a big deal. I'm sure a Trump controlled monetary policy, aided by Trump controlled statistics, will be much worse and more volatile. But much more important is the threat to the rule of law and institutions generally.

Labour have now put out a response to the Farage speech, in the name of Ellie Reeves - it’s all about the practicalities of deportation and detention. Suggests they’re just fine with his tone/language/the very dark turn this whole debate is taking.

Anyone would think that it was UKRAINE that unlawfully invaded Russia. Not the other way around.

And that it was Ukraine bombing flats, hospitals and civilians in Russia.

Trump is such a liar.
Trump: "I get along with Zelenskyy, but I disagree w/ what he's done. Severely disagree. This is a war that should have never happened...I was a little bothered by the fact that Zelenskyy was saying, 'I have to get constitutional approval.' I mean, he's got approval to go into war & kill everybody"

People are missing the real story here. If Trump is being serious he has basically neutered all US strategic submarines activity around Russia before this. He was doing exactly what Putin would have wanted.

Trump has not guaranteed that he will put sanctions on Russia in 50 days, he has offered Putin protection against additional sanctions for 50 days. And he can always extend beyond that.

“Putin is tired of this whole thing,” Trump said on Fox News. “He’s not looking good. And he wants to look good.”
In reality, it is Trump who is tired of “this whole thing,” Trump who’s not looking good, and Trump who wants to look good.

This is how our government has been corrupted:

1) Donors give huge sums to elect politicians to office.
2) Elected officials rewrite the rules in the donors' favor.
3) Donors make a huge profit.
4) Repeat.

For the sake of democracy, we must get Big Money out of politics.
