Resting and working on manuscript revisions & editorial decisions two weeks post-surgery. Not being able to walk for this time has been humbling & frustrating. Good thing my feline nurse is so attentive & cuddly. Nurse Dinah believes in bedrest solidarity.

Book deadline was yesterday, with 5 chapters left to go. <sigh> Well, onwards. Today, hiked 3+ miles in & out to this lovely spot where I wrote 8 pages of Chapter 10. Progress!

In a study of professors, women got 378 new work requests over 4 weeks vs 118 for men. Women spent more time on service, advising & teaching; men on research. Orgs should track who is taking extra duties & ensure they are rewarded and distributed fairly. www.forbes.com/sites/kimels...

Finally - the rain stopped! Time for a peaceful walk in the woods with the pup before settling back into ALL THE WORK for today (i.e., 3 dissertations, the next book chapter, a couple of manuscripts, & writing by-laws for the Dept & College). That said, I think I'd rather go back to the woods.

Off contract for the summer, so while I'll still be writing & editing, will also be very much gardening. Here, the blackberry bush has two tiny berries on it! Blueberry bushes....did not survive winter. Soon, will plant allllll the vegetables.

Finished writing another book chapter today from this lovely spot. Waters were a bit high, but weather was lovely. Bonus: met a lot of dogs.

Changed today's schedule a bit to allow for extra writing time for the book. Am fortunate to live where I could write in this peaceful spot for a couple of hours.

2+ hrs on the phone with IT to fix a VPN & software issue on a work laptop (they couldn't fix it).

My personal laptop has randomly restarted twice (no notice - nothing saved).

The temperature alarm in my 11yo frig has gone off 4x in the last 3 hrs.

This is how the machines win. <gaaaah>

My husband had a scary medical emergency yesterday. He's somewhat stable now but needs surgery asap. Grateful to be on sabbatical to write a book (which one can do from an ER triage room, turns out) & not having to manage course logistics at this time.
