The problem with this, though, is that ultimately they are teenagers and want the easiest way out. Plus, that essay needs to be written eventually—so even though it is a good activity, those kids are still going to go back to generative AI to do the heavy lifting for their writing anyway…

I'm a high school teacher and I refuse to assign homework. It's one of my best qualities.
I 100% would have used ChatGPT for homework when I was in school, because homework sucked ass. However, if I hadn't been forced to bullshit a lot of essays 15 minutes before class I wouldn't have learned that I enjoy writing. The moral is to destroy both ChatGPT and homework.
