I think PM Carney has 1) been listening to actual policy experts which is refreshing; 2) knows Canada is exceptionally vulnerable; & 3) understands that Trump is actually a HUGE coward- so this helps to signal that shit is getting real. A war of attrition IS terrifying- even to a guaranteed winner.

Mostly because our window is right next to a line of their goons who are just itching to throw a rock through it. It's not 3D chess. It's just checkers. The speech is a threat to remove it though. I'm not a Carney apologist but I am an IR scholar... and the speech itself is pretty unprecedented.

It is no accident that generative Ai tech has been fast-tracked with no regulatory oversight. Bc now we have a version of the Big Lie that is premised on the idea that “nothing we see is real”. How easy it becomes to lie to our faces, when the *actual truth* can be discounted as just another lie.

My first year intro poli sci class have been given a "what's your take?" assignment to do in pairs and as they trickle in I have to say it's a great assignment! If it were not for privacy concerns I would share (so I won't), but WOW so fun and the takes are so interesting!

My hot take is that when you are literally at the very top of the game, diss tracks are- by definition- nothing short of bullying. If you have no-where to punch but down, it's time to try something entirely new.

I don't know about you guys, but today I would much rather mourn the 3000 people who were killed by al Qaeda on 9/11, & the upwards of 4 million people- mostly civilians- who were killed (directly and indirectly) by GWB's ensuing "War on Terror" in the subsequent 20 years. But hey, that's just me.

Two things can be simultaneously true: political violence almost always leads to very bad things, for everyone. And also, the establishment that enabled a malignant bigot to thrive doesn’t get to demand respect or civility for him, especially from the very targets of his hatred.
