it seems like if a particular policy is reviled enough to mobilize mass protests and opposition across the country on a regular basis, that is perhaps a policy that does not represent the will of the electorate and should be reconsidered

like, if more people took the stance of "you have authority that can endanger life and liberty, convince me why I should cooperate with you if I don't have to" then cops wouldn't go into every situation expecting to make demands, and then fly off the handle when people don't comply

I don't know if this is a recent or a longstanding thing, but it seems like the US culturally gives a lot more deference to law enforcement than we probably should, which has led to a culture of entitlement on the part of LE
