This is extremely stupid.
The US Open Cup is an important part of the Sounders' and US Soccer history. As a fan I'd rather they compete in this tournament than the Leagues Cup.

My understanding is that the Sounders will NOT be one of the 16 MLS teams competing in the U.S. Open Cup this year. The Tacoma Defiance will play in their stead. It will be the first time since 2015 that the Sounders’ affiliate will participate in the tournament.

IMO, giving up $2M GAM + an int slot to move on from a player you don’t want, open a U22 spot, and add a very good player going into his prime (even if he’s coming off a season where he dealt with injuries but still would have tied for 3rd most goal contributions for SEA last year) is good business

Iwobi has been exceptional this season. Incredibly consistent, filling the 'Willian' creativity void for the most part but across midfield. He's got eight goals/assists this season, already one more than last year. He's stepped up for #FFC.

The Galaxy are pretty clearly the best team in the league. Sounders had to be perfect to win, came very close to it. The players and coaching staff did so much better this year than anyone had any right to expect. Hopefully ownership actually gives them some help next year.
