I’ve seen plenty of ads for “12 days of [item]mas” advent calendars.

NO.

Advent is the weeks leading up to Christmas. The 12 days of Christmas are December 25 through January 5. The 12 days come after Advent. So get yourself one of each kind and keep the celebration going.

Earlier today I drove past a Hobby Libby and the parking lot was JAMMED. What kind of sale were they running anyway?

Huh, Zhouqin Burnikel penned both the Apple News and New York Times crosswords today. I’m trying to think if I’ve seen that happen before.

Made Mamie Eisenhower’s pumpkin chiffon pie for dessert tonight and was tickled. It’s the first pumpkin pie recipe I’ve seen in ages worth making instead of surrendering to (utterly cromulent) $6 Costco pie. A friend said “it tastes like everything will be okay.”

I’m proud of the Dropout show Gastronauts for having more drag kings on their show than RuPaul has had in 17 seasons of Drag Race.

Every now and again, I’m amazed how when I drive my electric car I’m using a laptop computer attached to two water-cooled cordless drills, four monitors, six webcams, and a radar system.

Thank you to whomever I stole this from, but does anyone else have a tune on repeat in their head today?

Hey Arizona DPS, you think maybe 5:30 AM isn’t the best time to push an Emergency Alert System warning about a missing person to people’s phones? They aren’t going to be in my bedroom where I was, until recently, fast asleep.

I’m not clear on baseball, but in the event it gets into an 18th inning does the winner get credit for two games?

The more I see people losing their minds over tonight’s World Series game potentially becoming its own doubleheader, the more I appreciate the Banana Ball showdown tiebreaker format.

Very short kitchen horror story:

Old roasting pan isn’t induction compatible.

Got reminded that AI is electrified Dunning-Kruger when an AI-selected “coffeehouse vibes” playlist served up “Coffee Shop” by Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Food drag name I encountered tonight while shopping: Pepita Romesco

It’s the time of year where us Arizonans have to remember that one of our onions equal four medium onions.

Did any other NYT Connections players today find the yellow and blue groups a little too similar to make the puzzle… fun?

This morning’s Will It Oatmeal?, where I take a dish and see if it can be made into a healthy-ish breakfast… Stroganoff.

If people say tomorrow they’re celebrating Columbus Day, ask if they plan to celebrate by trying a new shortcut to the grocery store but instead getting lost and ransacking someone’s house.

Got myself back on Weight Watchers. Breakfast this morning is oatmeal inspired by Korean army stew. 9 points of my daily 37. Would have been five but there’s cheese hiding in there.

So far with kaiser rolls recipes, Martha Stewart’s is my favorite. I figured out the surprisingly tricky basics of the old-school folding technique that nobody does anymore. Now to learn how to do it better.

TIL… Russian dressing got its name because one of the original ingredients was caviar. The newfangled kind with pickles just ain’t quite the same now.

My minor success this morning: proto-latte art. I’m at a loss for possible alt text to describe my squiggle.

While working on making my perfect breakfast sandwich, I am surprised to find that so far my favorite protein option is turkey bacon. Also the sandwich is dramatically improved by arugula dressed with mayo and a dab of Dijon mustard. Even if the salad component would have me thrown out of New York.
