New story out now from @lightspeedmagazine.com! This one is all about how it feels to work in higher education these days. Spoiler: it feels extremely bad, like “what if your university signed a compact with the actual devil and now there’s an unbreakable curse” levels of bad 🫠

This is such a good issue, you guys! And not just because I'm in it!

ok, real NYR time: I'm going to write only 4 days per week until September, wrap up my D&D campaign, cut my volunteer commitments down to 2, and get WAY MORE SLEEP. I'm tired of being tired. I want to feel alive again.
Contemplating making "write less, like a lot less" one of my New Year's resolutions, at least for the first half of the year. Also contemplating pausing my D&D campaign, though that's a little more socially fraught. My brain feels burned to a stub.

my first (ish) short story came out in 2025 and my second one comes out tomorrow! 🎉🎉 Hopefully this is a good omen for 2026.

And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, breathed and drew in the calm in which Elfland basks; and all his realms dreamed on in that ageless repose, of which deep green pools in summer can barely guess; and Erl dreamed too with all the rest of Elfland and so passed out of all remembrance of men.
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, said two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the desert. Near them, on the sand, half-sunk, a shattered visage lies
And Tiny Tim, who did NOT die, left from the Grey Havens and sailed to the undying lands.

I loved this story! Although I did have to give my daughter an extra kiss before bed ❄️
Perfect for a frosty day, Counting To A Hundred by @aishatuado.bsky.social is full of wintery magic and grief

"The front door yawns wide; winter's teeth bared. Inside, loneliness prowls our home, a beast with misty bayou breath."

...I think one of my new year's resolutions is going to be to write less. Or rather, to block off evenings to not write. I didn't do that in 2025, and my writing/life balance got kind of skewed.

This is my 2025 award eligibility post! I wrote one (1) short story but it was a banger, fully deserving of this incredible graphic that definitely didn't take me two hours to make.

(That's true. It took almost three.)

This story is so good??? This story knows all about the incredibly specific shame of not speaking a language as well as you should, and has something to say about it.

I'd resigned myself to a school volunteer task on a busy day, and then thought, "No," and worked up the nerve to send a mass email. Someone responded! Someone who AFAIK has never volunteered before! I'm elated ✨ I'm thriving ✨ I have unlocked personal growth and am living my best life ✨✨✨

The title pulled me in and I loved it. Absurdist, weirdly reassuring, unforgettable

I missed that Monument Valley 3 was released for iOS last month. A regular purchase — no longer part of Netflix's brief flirtation with being a subscription game service.

Also, some new levels (“The Garden of Life”).

Sat down at the laptop and my brain rebelled. Zero words. Switched to paper and everything's fine. Not sure why that works but it does.
