Why did DEED change its tune??

Because 👏of 👏you👏

Alaska's kids were at risk of losing lunch programs, after school activities, family supports, and you stood up.

I couldn't be more thankful.

My office took a painful call this week. A woman wanted help for her boyfriend from Juneau. For more than a year they've talked online. She helped him financially-—sending her retirement savings and borrowing against her house. She still didn't realize: he's not real. A classic 'romance scam.'

Flood peak is expected tomorrow morning, between 11 and 12 feet. By comparison, this summer’s flood was 16.65 feet. Things should be OK, but a lot of people will be watching anxiously. #akwx #Alaska

Today we overrode Governor Dunleavy’s vetoes of school funding and the audit bill. It’s a shame it came to this, but a supermajority knew: schools need funding and Alaskans need the auditor checking the books.

I hope next time we’ll find ways to move Alaska forward by collaborating.

Yesterday the governor vetoed SB 156, my bill helping small Alaska fishing businesses. That’s a weird move. First because it built on work I helped him do last year. I was glad to help Alaskans, and even though my name was on that policy I took pains to share credit with the governor.

Juneau is now at measurable precipitation in 39 of the prior 40 days. This last occurred in 1999 when there was an amazing streak of 49 consecutive days and 71 out of 72 days. Only 3 other instances (39 out of 40 days) have occurred in the 82-year period of record. @alaskawx.bsky.social
Juneau now has recorded measurable precipitation on 37 of the last 38 days. The last time this was accomplished was Dec-Jan 2011-12. Prior to that it was Oct-Nov 2008. On average, it has about a 10-12 year recurrence interval. Every other historical occurrence was between Sept and early Jan.
