Our Saturday family schedule with all our commitments and trading off one car is looking a bit like the movie Primer.

First run in 3 months. On my 8th affliction of 2025: Pneumonia (1/25), cold (2/25), cold (6/25), Plantar Fasciitis (6/25-7/25), COVID (8/25), tonsillitis (9/25), plantar wart (9/25-11/25), and another mild cold (10/25). After getting almost nothing in 2023-2024 and running 2500 miles! Slow start.

Hennepin County Property Tax statement arrived for 2026. Up a whopping 10%. Worse than that… The School District portion is only going up 3.6%, while City of Minneapolis is up 13.6%!

Meanwhile our teachers in public schools in Minneapolis have to go on strike every 3 years.

Q: Do you think it would've been fitting to lower the flags to half staff when Melissa Hortman, the Minnesota House Speaker, was gunned down by an assassin?

TRUMP: I'm not familiar. The who?

Hit 1,000 on my e-bike in 10 months! It has really changed how I think about getting around the city as a one-car family and the flexibility I have to make separate plans.

At this point if I were the #2 Red Bull driver I’d be begging to get a seat in a Racing Bulls car. The RB is undriveable for anyone other than Max.

It’s worth reading Seeger’s testimony before Congress. To sum it up: “No.” historymatters.gmu.edu/d/6457

Rode the e-bike to drop off the 7yo this morning at ballet in 3deg temps. 🥶 It was fine, actually. Very glad class is only 1 mile away though! I think 0 may be my limit to bike.

I guess I *really* don’t understand how scoring in college football works. What sort of calvinball madness is this?

When I cough, my lungs make a sound as if I inhaled Pop Rocks. So… that’s kind of cool… I guess?

New year, new running goals! Fell 12 miles short of 2024 goal due to illness, so I guess I’ll add 12 miles to whatever goal I determine once I kick this bronchitis.

I suspect *strongly* I have bacterial bronchitis based on past experience with viral vs. bacterial coughs and the fact my 10yo just had a bacterial lung infection clear up. PA thinks otherwise. Now I’m stuck coughing for a few more weeks on an inhaler instead of days to see if this can clear up. 😷

Commuting ranked by modality, best to worst: eBike > car pool > bus > bike > car.

The Whole of the Moon as a key song in a Christmas movie is a bold choice, one of which I firmly support. Let It Snow, an underrated vignette classic from 2019.

Played Root with my coworkers last night. Close game: 30-29-29-25. 🦎🦅🐈🐁. I interacted with a lot of table talk as my Lizard economy went from 6 points per turn to 2 and on the cusp of 0, getting very lucky on my last card to craft.

Love Root, but I need to be more self aware about my table talk.

Here me out #F1, Abu Dhabi double points. 🍅💨

Not only that, but every race after the opening race is +4% (104% then 108% thru to 200%). Also points to the Top 15.

And points for artistry and articulation.

Even better, drop Abu Dhabi and have the finale in Brazil.

We’re going to have a new F1 Constructor’s Champion that isn’t Red Bull or Mercedes for the first time since 2009… and we don’t know who it’s going to be yet!

My wife this morning: We have to rake the leaves this weekend!

*I write LEAVES on our family calendar for Sunday*

*wife looks at me and the big empty calendar space for today*

Me: I’m just being honest for the both of us. I need a day for mobilization.

2025 Hennepin County proposed tax arrived today. Home taxable value dropped 2%, but the overall taxes went up 9.3%. 🫠 Not sure what “maximum” means when the City authorized a “maximum” 8.3%.

The Bluesky migration reminds me of the great Digg to Reddit migration. I didn’t think such a thing was possible in this age.

Best thing about running in the off-season is screw Zone 2. If I want to run Zone 3 and 4 every run because it makes me happy, you bet the hell I’m going to just that. 🏃🏻‍♂️

Running is supposed to help one’s mental health, but I have a really hard time motivating myself when I’m so bummed about the world.

Deleted X off my phone finally. I wish there were more people here, but I can’t stomach that place anymore.
