SUMPTUOUS Dressed up, dragged out, promised I’d enjoy it, I stepped into a world that was never built for me. A sumptuous feast for every sense. Penguin men in polished shoes escorting gilded women through a glittering palace, a shrine to excess. Tables groaned beneath abundance, every dish a declaration. Champagne chiming on silver trays, cocktails sweating in every hand. I sat at the back with my water, my plate almost bare, thinking of my quiet kitchen, the fridge light on an empty shelf, and all the people who go without while food spilled onto marble floors.

Writes to unbutton the ordinary, revealing small rebellions hiding in plain sight. The quill sings words onto the page, and we find honesty in the tracks it leaves behind.

Wanting We talk each day in easy, borrowed ways, your words a place I lean into, yet touch is elusive. The miles between us no map could measure, distance shaped by circumstance, from the patience of not yet. We trade the small things, a laugh, a story, the weight of our days, but beneath it all, the need persists, a pull that refuses to settle. If longing had a sound, it would be the pause after you speak, the held silence where I almost go with you and do not. You are here. I feel you. And still there is an ache for the moment conditions soften, for the quiet permission of arrival, when wanting no longer waits but closes the distance it has practiced every day.

Boneyard I was exhumed from the mire of womb-dark, a lattice of bone, slick with the sorrow of blood. My skull, a cradle for torment. A serpent of vertebrae, coiled in waiting. Growing with the misery of slow transformation. Each lengthening limb betrayed the loss of innocence. Each joint a hinge on which agony pivoted. I walked as a marionette of marrow, veiled in clinging, guilt-riddled flesh, piloted by a tyrant mind whispering pain into the abyss. Doomed to rot as time gnaws through bones, brittle with memory. The pressure of regret warps my spine, ribs become tight fists, locked around an anthracite heart. I shrank into the echo of a life, blocking out all traces of feeling, shielding myself from hurt. And when the final breath fled, when the battery ceased its beat, broken for a final time, I remained. A shrine of torment trapped within a cathedral of calcium, a fragile cage for what once was.

Shivers A hand settles in the small of my back, a quiet claim, a gentle pull. His thumb traces with slow insistence, a warm, unhurried promise on my skin. Shivers climb the length of me, curling into a flutter behind my ribs. Heat gathers along my cheeks, glowing softly behind my eyes as I lean into his warmth. In that suspended breath, that muted longing, thought loosens its hold, giving way to sensation. A pulse of anticipation for the ecstasy held just out of reach.
