We have snow.

Looking at the weather forecast, I made the right decisions to take Monday off work. I don’t have to feel obligated to drive in the snow.

I remembered to text my snow plow guy and get on his list for snow removal this year. He knows my Philippino neighbor will pay in beer to have his driveway cleared and the lesbian couple across the street will offer cash to clear their Subarus.

I broke my strict no CNN policy when MSNBC brought on Bernie Sanders to talk about the election results.

Gail came up to me at precisely 7 pm and told me it was time for dinner which is normally at 8. She does not have the patience for human inventions like time changes.

Experimenting with the contents of my CSA share and Joshua McFadden’s Six Seasons of Pasta today. Pasta with cabbage and lemon ricotta, pasta with pork ragu and charred cabbage, pasta with butternut squash, sage and sausage and maybe celery root cacio e pepe.

Recently when I am bored, I go on X and ask people who want to get rid of SNAP why they don’t want to feed hungry kids. When they bring up fraud - I point out that largest fraud in the program is thieves stealing money from EBT cards - to stop this gov’t needs to investigate and prosecute credit

If you are going to go on a podcast and talk about how important coal is to voters - maybe you should check on how many people actually work in coal related industries first.

Making a pork ragu this morning. Kitchen smells delicious. Lennie keeps coming by to check the stove.

It is cooling off outside and rained today so we are finding mice in the house again. Current count - peanut butter baited trap - 1, rescued hunting dogs - 0. Lennie correctly claims they are not raccoons. Gail is confused by the fact that they are inside, not outside.

Neighbors who normally have a destination house for Halloween passed on decorating this year. I passed on answering the door. Turned off the lights and left bucket with candy on the sidewalk. Brought it in when the candy was gone.

I have decided that my winter holiday celebration with my kids is going to be afternoon tea at the Drake. Thought about the Walnut Room but older child is sure he did that as a child, and younger child swears he is lying. So finger sandwiches, fancy sweets, carolers and martinis it is.

After assembling an entire loom yesterday with a screw driver with a chewed handle (thanks Gail) - I found the good screwdrivers.

Had lunch with my son yesterday. Got to his place in Lakeview while he was still walking his dog so I took pictures of some of the Halloween decorations.

I live by myself in a house that is clearly too big from me because I can’t find the good screwdrivers.

Ordered food from Panera for dinner. Was in a hurry so I didn’t take everything out of the bag to make sure I got all of my food. Got in the car and discovered it wasn’t all there.

Another day that ends in “y” and another fundraising request from an organization using Act Blue that looks like straight up fraud.

Received an erroneous property tax refund meant for Chase for a different parcel. Contacted county about getting check cancelled. They seemed sort of surprised I didn’t want to keep the money and was unwilling to just send it to Chase myself.
October 16, 2025 at 9:53 PM
Just discovered that I can't call or directly email the County office that erroneously issued me a $5300 check they were supposed to send to Chase - I can only fill out an on line customer service form and hope they call back.

When I got divorced I let my ex stay on the family phone plan because he was paying for some of the kid’s phones. Now the kids are around 30 and the family phone plan is a pain. He needs to make changes - I told him to get off but he doesn’t want to because it would cost more. I am playing hardball

Rachel Maddow on MSNBC tonight showing that is it possible to actually look up information on which denomination the religious leaders you report on are part of, use their correct titles, and understand the importance of a Eucharistic procession.

I am sick with some kind of virus that is mostly improving - I had a lot of things to do today and have so far done some laundry, washed the dishes, walked and fed the dogs, posted the internet and done a lot of needlepoint. I think that is enough.

When we separated I let my ex-husband stay on the family phone plan but he has been increasingly difficult about it and wanted to make changes - I told him take your devices and get your own contract.

If you don’t understand why the Eucharistic procession in Broadview was such a big deal - do some research. Don’t say that it wasn’t important because you as a white, secular humanist don’t get it. I am a white, Jamestown descendant, Humanistic Jew and I can explain it to you so you can learn.

I am not Catholic, not even Christian, but I grew up around a lot of Catholics, studied French Literature and European History, and was in college during the 1980s when Churches provided physical sanctuary to Central American refugees. The Eucharist procession in Broadview was a big deal.
