Brief, thoughtful, beautifully done.

Winter workshops get me thru the dark days. Inexpensive, on a Saturday, and run by Steve Edwards? Registered.
One month from today!

I'll be offering a special afternoon workshop with 27 Powers entitled "Writing as Belonging."

We will begin the work of transforming our writing practices from siloed solitudes into acts of situated belonging—to ourselves, to the art form, to each other, to the world.

Bookshop love.

The indie sellers in northeast US do a glorious job of carrying pre-loved books. I’ve already picked up several Steinbeck novels and one more Toni Morrison.

May the words be with you this weekend. #booksky

Been up since 5h but trying to stay quiet and not wake others (grrr…).

Very best wishes for your words ♥️

I lay quiet in the early morning hours where we’re staying in Pennsylvania with friends, trying not to wake my husband.

Yesterday I took this photo of the frozen Susquehanna River here.

Now back to editing while hoping you capture what we most need in words.

I re-read the Foreword by Toni Morrison in Beloved.

All this contemporary history wherein choices are weighed around career and children, when not so long ago slavery meant ‘choice’ was far beyond reach.

In that magnificent refusal to forget, Toni Morrison made a story we can’t forget.

Listening to her on the process of sketching, making tiny additions and erasures, TRYING things, I hear the adjustments fundamental to drafting stories with words.

From the archive for Russell Hoban, #BornOnThisDay in 1925, my thoughts on TURTLE DIARY.

A wry, piercingly perceptive exploration of different facets of loneliness & the fear of stepping outside one’s comfort zone in the maelstrom of middle age. #BookSky 💙📚

Turtle Diary by Russell Hoban
What a captivating, wryly humorous novel this is – a life-affirming read with none of the schmaltz or saccharine this description might suggest! It’s my book group’s current read, and I can’t wait …
