Frost in my parents' garden
January 2, 2026 at 9:34 AM
I am having a bath with my Christmas Matey at my parents' house.

The only difference from 30+ years ago is the bathroom has finally been done up all swish like so it's actually warm and shiny and clean, and I have a glass of prosecco.

I'm also not going to drink water through a flannel.

Festive Robin. Not pictured but very much witnessed: a festive Kingfisher.

Yes, I am looking forward to going home at Christmas.

Yes, my sister and I have also made bingo cards with classic phrases on and will have a shot whenever they're mentioned.

We are going to be fucking smashed.

I was there! It's such a lovely thing to be a part of.
A couple of weekends ago I attempted to get festive by finding out about the history of Sheffield's unique set of Christmas carols.

The carols are different from any others sung in the UK and traditionally sang in rural pubs across the city.

Only Connect... You've just claimed that people aren't allowed to go to Pripyat.

...I beg to differ.

I listened to 1000 albums this year. I wrote a blog post about my favourite album of all time, and what it means to me, and why it’s number 1000 on my list. If anyone has been following along, thank you for your support. #music #musicsky #blog

Record Reconstructor
A music blog where I, Rich, try to listen to more than 1000 albums in a year, in order to beat a quiz show contestant I saw on TV.

It really was The Perfect Blend of hard-hitting drama, amnesia, Madge Bishop and pavs. I'm going to miss this. Thank you to @andrewwormald.bsky.social for guiding us through the nonsense.
Days after the final episode aired we finished our campaign of the Neighbours-themed role-playing game ‘The Perfect Blend’. I hope it was a fitting end for our player characters Brett-Shane, Andi & Teena. They were good neighbours but became good friends. #TTRPG #Neighbours #ThePerfectBlend

He did it!! 🥳
If you asked me what my favourite album of all time is, you’ll get a different answer depending on my mood. If you ask me 100 times in a year, I’m likely to say Give Up by the Postal Service 50+ of those times.

Listened to Give Up by The Postal Service. 1000/1000

Sick of people telling me how I should familiarise myself with ChatGTP or whatever AI shit there is out there. How about familiarise yourself with thinking for yourself rather than being a complete bore with limited skills.

Here is Bramble the Harris Hawk.

She hunts with her Dad.

Once she got hold of a Jack Russell.

Taking my cameras for a wander down Rivelin Valley.

There was a man taking his Harris Hawk for a walk.

Hawk photos were taken.

The Hawk is called Bramble.

It was everything I hoped for
I'm going to see Midsomer Murders at the theatre tonight. I genuinely cannot wait. We've watched every single episode (thanks lockdown) and I'm excited to finally find out if Joyce Barnaby was the murderer all along

As I was trying to find my 18th birthday card from William Hague (for a PowerPoint quiz, what else), I found this birthday card from my Granddad. And I think we can all agree - top tier life advice. It's all we can hope for in this world.

My Dad's just redone my parents' bathroom and it looks swish af. My sister and I chime in with helpful comments. Mine was a projector for when we come home for Christmas. My Mum has vetoed it.

Tonight in Mythic Bastionland, the brave knights travelled in winter to seek a seer, picked up the kingdoms most eligible debutante, killed her horse, upset the companies squire, bullied their trainee knight in tow, braided each others hair, all while finding time for some light questing also.

Dad's having a normal one with a new tool he apparently found in the middle of Lidl

The man already has angle grinders and chop saws coming out of his ears so this must be the only thing he doesn't have

Some of his exploits include: nearly being stolen by someone on another street who thought he was a stray, and going into someone's house and trying to steal their cheese toastie. A real one.
The street I live on has lost one of its most famous, friendly cats. The outpouring of grief and support in the WhatsApp group is something else. Poor Rupert. Hope you're sleeping in lots of inappropriate places and clawing people's trousers wherever you are.
