Update: FAMU says banning the word Black from a law student’s Black History Month flyer was a mistake, and the result of an “overly cautious interpretation” of Florida law

I do want to shout-out my fellow sociologists, who have collectively created a discipline so woke that not a single one of our introductory textbooks can make it past Florida's censors.

Great work everyone.

The president constantly lying about stolen elections, after staging a coup attempt, & now threatening to federalize & steal future elections, should be the primary news story in the country 24/7 & on every front page until he is impeached & removed next week.

NEW: A public servant got a bizarre voicemail after complaining about Ontario’s return to work policy

The voice was unmistakable: Doug Ford

Ford shared advice passed down from his mom: “You don’t like it, go get another job”

And then he hung up

There is an echo-chamber problem. But it is only one side of the political spectrum who are climbing into echo chambers. The rest of us consume media for information and to shape our opinions with diverse voices. The right consumes stuff that affirms pre-existing affinities and validates prejudices

It's (finally) official, despite last-minute concerns about emergency brakes. After 15 years and $13-billion, the Eglinton Crosstown is supposed to open on Sunday. But there will be no ceremony that day, and no Shuffle Demons, TTC says. #TOpoli #Onpoli

Since this issue seems to have reared its head, here’s my column from last week on why nuclear weapons wouldn’t help Canada at all, and in general don’t protect countries from invasion by adjoining countries

Opinion: In Canada’s threatening new neighbourhood, the nuclear option remains no option at all
With the U.S. becoming a threat, Canada will need to bolster its defences – but nuclear arms would provide no protection and potentially increase risks

Fun fact about new Fed chair Kevin Warsh: he’s married to the daughter of billionaire makeup baron Ronald Lauder, the guy who also convinced Trump he desperately needed to seize Greenland, which helped his own business interests. It’s grifting all the way down

A reminder of the risks of relying exclusively on the F35. Trump will use any available leverage to apply pressure, including on America’s closest allies. Derisking is essential.

When the president was calling all Somali immigrants "garbage" who "come from hell" and "contribute nothing" to America and therefore needed to go "back where they came from" did you ask him to "stop the rhetoric," Tom?
Homan: "I begged for the last two months on TV for the rhetoric to stop. I said in March -- if the rhetoric doesn't stop, there is gonna be bloodshed. And there has been. I wish I wasn't right. I don't want to see anybody die."

I have an unfinished but long-germinating essay on this about like …. the myth of Grown-Ups, and the point at which you realize they don’t really exist, and that no one is coming to save us but us, with all our hesitation and inexperience and inadequacy to meet a moment we were not prepared for
Need less ‘the call to heroism has inspired me to be who i was always meant to be!” narratives and more “this fucking sucks and I don’t want to be here but someone has to do it and goddamnit it looks like that’s me” narratives imo.
