Here's the $$$ behind the Texas school that will offer "forbidden courses"

I'm uneasy w/ a VC-backed uni but let's wait to judge. Campus culture has become politically monolithic. This could shake that up

A Texas university created by Palanatir cofounder Joe Lonsdale and journalist Bari Weiss has raised some $150 million to teach 'forbidden courses'
The University of Austin is being funded by tech bigwigs and others who think academia is broken.

What a great write-up of lawyer caught using ChatGPT who must now “throw himself on the mercy of the court” as they say

Been on BlueSky two weeks—my thoughts. Overall, love what you're building @jay.bsky.team. Keep up the great work!

Is anyone else getting almost no engagement here?

Not sure if early BlueSky algo has it in for me or if I just need to up my skeet game…

I’m loving BlueSky but, wow, so many cats.

Probably a good thing. Cats have been integral to every successful Internet platform

To be *very* clear on this, We only take actions like this if its *clear* to us that the user in question is actively and maliciously inviting bad users. Its very easy to tell if someone just invited a one-off bad actor by accident vs someone who is intentionally bringing on edgelords
Occasionally, when we take action to moderate an account, we may revoke invite codes from that account and other accounts in the same invite tree.

Great thread. Damn, legal BlueSky is already > than legal Twitter
A little legal realist/ law & tech inside-baseball thread
about what the Gonzalez/Taamneh cases

In my opinion, the narrative arc of these cases is more interesting than what was in the cases or the issues presented by the cases themselves.

Here's what basically happened:

Love this page in SCOTUS’s Warhol ruling!

Don’t love the ruling itself, which shrinks fair use. Sotomayor says, while use is transformative, “Orange Prince” is different from seminal 2 Live Crew decision b/c “purpose and character” is primarily commercial

This is a good take on the vibe so far on BlueSky

I’d love to hear Dorsey and Graber’s thoughts on how this can be “more than a liberal inverse of Truth Social” (but can’t find their handles!)

The new platform aims to be a decentralized alternative to Twitter. The vibe there is mostly like that of a Portland coffee shop.

Watching George Santos wander into the federal criminal justice system all confident and happy and jokey is like watching the slutty football team captain wander into the abandoned boathouse at midnight in a slasher movie. You know what’s coming and you feel gross looking forward to it.
