I hate the term “enshittification” because the term perpetuates a myth that tech platforms get worse just because they lose sight of users, that it’s an entirely avoidable problem if tech platforms just put users first. I think this is unequivocally false, and an extremely childish idea.

A confirmation dialog is a tool to ensure users are aware of an action’s destructive consequences. When an action has none—or is easily reversed—a confirmation dialog is pointless.
This seems obvious, and yet there are so many “Are you sure? There will be no consequences” dialogs in games.

been trying out chaos zero nightmare after the pitch of “slay the spire + gacha” cut through the endless noise of extremely polished high-budget new gacha games, but this game’s character gender ratio is absurd
there’s only like 3 male characters, and 2 of them are named Luke & Lucas???

was pretty disappointed when I realized a book I’d seen widely described as incredibly dense and academic was just a novel (with a very casual YA tone) that happened to be set in college. only a tiny bit horrified by what this means for how we as a whole discuss “difficult” media.

recently watched a video from a creator I used to follow which, among other things, talked about how difficult it was going from being a gacha-game-specific creator to a general variety streamer

I think one big thing that this misses is that there IS actually one big pro-consumer argument for standardizing subtitles over bespoke text hard-encoded into video files: allowing the user to customize size & style to their liking
