My blog post about generic memory has just been published on The Memory Palace:
How do we recall the memory of events that may happen repeatedly, such as our own birthday? Today at The Memory Palace, Katja Crone analyzes different types of memory, including what she terms "generic" memory, when it comes to frequent events.

Characters are central to the creation and experience of films and other media. Their cultural significance is profound, but they also raise a wide range of questions. This book provides a comprehensive theory that guides the analysis and interpretation of characters. buff.ly/TZ7Limv

The totalitarian surveillance apparatus now in place to secure the fascist coup of MAGA & the tech oligarchs has been decades in the making, with support from both parties & tacit backing from many foreign governments, which gladly made use of its intelligence

The American college experience—earning a degree to join the middle class while coming of age on a pastoral campus with sororities and sports—may be over.
Trump's attacks on higher ed impact much more than just Columbia or scientific research. They put the whole idea of college at risk.

Good overview by @karenhao.bsky.social on the risks of scientific decline in America.
But here’s the thing I’m noticing, based on people I’ve spoken to and who write to me about my own reporting:
The argument that all innovation started w/federal research is apparently not sufficiently persuasive.

The foundations of America’s prosperity are being dismantled

Dear academic colleagues in US, we are reading terrible things here in Europe about the Trump administration's current attacks on universities and academic freedom. Are you also affected by this? And if yes, which forms of support and solidarity might help? Can you recommend information?
