Here's my thread of this year's new scholars in Economics of Education and Education Policy.

These PhD students and postdocs are on the job market, so take a look (and spread the word to others who might benefit from exposure).

And now onto the scholars... 👇

The United States is a country of laws. It is not a dictatorship.

Congress determines immigration under our Constitution.

Congress explicitly, specifically barred the President from banning entire nationalities from immigrating.

1/ Today the Department of Education said that it’s transferring a variety of programs to other agencies, making good on Trump’s promise to dismantle ED.

The most important thing to understand is that this is a Potemkin reorganization. It’s fugazi, it’s fairy dust. It’s not real.

The Trump-Vance administration’s efforts to dismantle the Dept. of Education are illegal.

As the Dept. is thrown into chaos, the country’s most vulnerable children — including those with disabilities, who live in rural areas, or are low-income — will suffer the most.

Reports of the death of the bachelor’s degree have been greatly exaggerated. Enrollment is near pre-pandemic levels, real tuition is flat or down, and the college wage premium remains high.

I explore how the narrative became disconnected from the data.
