D1 label or no, USL will never be able to compete with MLS.

Expending resources on a quixotic mission instead of focusing on being the best 2nd and 3rd tier league you can be seems unwise.

Just ask the neo-NASL.
BREAKING: The USL intends to launch a 12- to 14-team Division One league in 2027-28. USL believes the U.S. is more than capable of accommodating more D1 teams.

Move over, Major League Soccer. A rival top flight men’s league is coming to the U.S.
USL is launching a new league with first-division sanctioning, offering an alternative to MLS and potentially opening the door to pro-rel.

The implication here is that the $2m sale to Houston is a sale of Philly's 60% stake in McGlynn's rights, which means an offer from abroad would need to be $3.33m in order to match Houston's $2m offer in terms of Philly's share of the proceeds.
Details on the Jack McGlynn trade:

- The money involved

- The many places the Union shopped him around to no avail

- NYCFC and the Red Bulls each own 20% of his rights, stemming from when the Union broke MLS homegrown territory rules to sign him in 2019

Sources: Union are trading Jack McGlynn to the Houston Dynamo
Though fans might be upset to see him move within MLS, Houston offered more money than any European team did. The Union are also about to sign a new midfielder, 23-year-old Serbian Jovan Lukić.

Thanks to the ETR crew for so many hours of great MLS chatter.

It's a real shame. How much can it cost to produce the show? Probably a lot less than one bad Georg Heitz TAM signing.

It's hard to see what the vision and strategy are here.
For 10 years I got to do a podcast about the league I love with some of my best friends in the world.

Today I am sad. Probably will be tomorrow, too.

The end of Extratime really blows. In a sea of corporate talk, bro talk, and gambling ads, ETR was just a bunch of soccer dorks. Over the years the characters changed but they were almost always really genuine people who didn’t take themselves too seriously but gave great insight
New Extratime drops this afternoon...

Sure, Luca de la Torre is a hometown kid in San Diego, but does he even play the same sport as San Diego FC?

Poch has already been fairly complimentary toward the MLS crew, but he's going to be declaring MLS the best league in the world after seeing Miljevic stacked up against these dudes.

Neymar is a pretty good player, but imagine how good he'll be after a few Gregg Berhalter powerpoint presentations.

Walking into a relegation bait situation will be hard, but I think it makes sense for Tolkin to shoot his shot here.

Some get to go straight to mid-table clubs. Tolkin's profile is a guy who is always going to have to run the gauntlet of playing for a bottom feeder to prove himself at that level.

The next step for a lot of MLS teams is to stop being such a low rung on the value manufacturing chain. Guys like Matai Akinmboni go for $2.5m as raw materials but in 1-2 years could be worth much, much more as a developed product. Sell-on clauses can only capture a fraction of that value.
Sources: Bournemouth have agreed a deal in principle with D.C. United to sign USYNT center back Matai Akinmboni.

Deal around $2.5m + sell-on clause for the 18-year-old, sources say.
