Politics and culture with a bit of technology. I know a good bit about two of those things, and imma get real weird about it.
I will continue saying it until I completely lose my mind -

They don't know that they're the BAD GUYS. And that's a criminally under - analyzed part of our stupid, stupid discourse.

Democrats want to fund police departments so that their jobs are easier and safer.

Republicans want to go outside of the legal system to open concentration camps because they think law enforcement doesn't know how to do their jobs.

I feel like the politics of this are super easy, you guys.

Local news CAN Be a force for good!
This kind of clear, direct explanation of what’s happening is basic journalism and yet it’s surprising to hear it stated so forthrightly in this mealy-mouthed era.
Cuts have consequences, illustrated. As seen on TV 📺

"How many kids have to die before we do something about this?!"

Is fun, because depending on the issue, the answer is "one" or "infinite". There's NO middle answer.

These unbelievable assholes are really from a different century, aren't they?
"Do you want to go home and eat a bag of these tonight?"

Yes?
Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said while he's been focused on protecting kids from the proliferation of THC products, he’s also against adults buying them.

Here's the thing. How many clicks did the Biden press conferences get? How much ad space did they sell around the promise of a pending Biden press conference?
Love how the press keeps praising Trump for press availability where he constantly reveals that he has no earthly idea what is goin on in his admin and the press does nothing with it.

The more people who are denied care and left to die, the more profitable it is for health insurance companies.

Your reminder that for-profit healthcare isn't healthcare.
It's an exploitation of sick people and transfer of wealth from the working class to the mega-rich.

He's not President anymore.

No one in his immediate orbit is going to be President.

That being said, if all this bullshit means that the political operatives who pushed him to run AT ALL in 2024 lose their careers, then let's just ruin their careers forever really quickly, okay, @democrats.org?

Fuck this guy so, so hard.

They don't actually have to do this. Biden will NOT be an issue in the 2026 midterms or the 2028 election (if it happens).

This is a clear opportunity for the GOP to just be decent. Be human. And they're just... NOT doing that.

It's disgusting.
Rick Scott on Biden's cancer diagnosis: "It doesn't make sense. I mean, we all get PSA tests and so it's hard to believe-- I hope he gets better. It doesn't seem to make much sense."

I am so, so fucking tired of reading this take today.

Why the actual hell does every Democrat have to respond when every other Democrat farts?

There is exactly zero pressure on Republicans to respond to any of the lunacy that a lot of folks in their camp believe -

An interesting point inspired by maybe the stupidest thing I read today -

Democrats have to explain to people WHY the existence of billionaires is bad.

Something more inspiring than #billionaires @democrats.org #bad

It occurs to me that Democrats say "bring manufacturing home!" as an appeal for a return to the time for when one factory job (plus a union!) could support an entire family.

Republicans say it because they're deranged xenophobes.

Not the same. Often portrayed as the same.

Answer - it's all about the hierarchy.

If you think of the world as "us" and "them" and "winners" and "losers", no amount of moral deprivation and ethical compromise is too much to maintain your place in the hierarchy.

Roughly 7% of the population caring about "inflation" as a purely partisan cudgel absolutely checks out.

Deeply unserious people.
You can smell the desperation in the headline Trump state media used for this delightful poll.

While this is... nice, it's a symptom of a larger problem - it doesn't address the civilian complaint about student loan forgiveness at all.

"If you take out a loan, you pay it back"

Is stupid, but legion among regular people when confronted with this issue.

You're overreacting?

But the thing is this.

If essays like this ARE an overreaction - and I hope it is - things are going to be okay. No harm, no foul.

So really, we need a LOT more people overreacting as that's going to be the only thing that will stop every word of this from coming true.

More optimistically, I wonder if the French nobility of the late 18th century saw the peasants getting crankier by the day and just thought "This is fine. Everything is fine.".
I wonder if Roman elites watching the fall of their empire also thought: “This is so stupid.”

It's... almost like the average person has NO IDEA how "the economy" actually works, but they think it's BAD, and they just mindlessly blame whoever's President.

It's a big riddle wrapped in an enigma how one could make the economy "good", but we've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas!
