After billions of dollars worth projects terminated last week, there is news about a probable second round of terminations. People in the power/energy space are just fed up at this moment. Soon they will be looking at other countries for work. Great job, USA!

Congrats to Lisa Murkowski on voting for a bill that she herself admitted was not ready in hopes that the House would change it. Now it’ll become law. She had the power to stop it, and instead chose to become complicit. That’s her legacy.

Immigrants working in the clean energy sector - the fight against climate change does not start and end in the US. There will be other countries doing good work in this space, our work does not stop here! Our knowledge and skills can be put to good use in many other countries!

You love to see it! Risk of emergencies down from 16% to 0.48%! We need to keep building on this momentum. More solar + BESS (preferably grid-forming), along with other reliable and firm resources, will help us build the grid of the future!
ERCOT's Kristi Hobbs told the ERCOT Board the risk of energy emergencies is much lower this summer. We've added about 10,000 megawatts in a year "most of it from solar and batteries, that puts us in a better position." Indeed. 16% chance last summer and 0.48% this summer.

Great piece! The power systems industry needs a lot more engineers in the coming years...with new immigrants not preferring to move to the US, this will be a BIG opportunity for EU and other nations to poach as well as attract engineers from other countries!
How to deal with shortage of skilled workers:
- Increase immigration
- Poach from others
- Retrain existing workers
- Train new workers
Immigration is out of favor. Poaching is limited. Retraining is not easy. Training takes years.
No easy way out!

I've seen folks talk about how "in four years" they'll be able to get back to their planned projects and I really don't think that's going to work out. People & projects losing funding now will not be able to hit pause and come back once funding is restored. Hard-won progress & capacity will be lost
I worry that not enough of a big deal is being made about how long-term the devastation of these budget cuts to our scientific and health agencies will be, beyond the absolute ruin they will cause in the acute period.

I chose to work at a US national lab mainly because of the great work being done here. With the recent federal cuts and new budget proposals, I guess we'll have to find new research homes in other countries in the coming years. Research won't stop, it will just slow down and move to other countries!

People here should worry more about AI agents taking their jobs over immigrants taking their jobs. The impact is gonna be immense. Also, we are still waiting to see if AI agents will create new jobs and help boost the economy while immigrants (in USA) have historically improved the economy!

Basically they prioritized money and party over their constituents
Woke up from my post-all-nighter nap. One thought: GOP moderates got bullied into voting for the bill. A bunch had written a letter asking leaders to slow phaseout of green energy credits that benefit their districts. Instead, leadership nuked the credits even more and they gave thumbs up anyway.

The kind of talent coming out of governemt roles, national labs and think tanks is just to good. While a lot of politicians and voters dont value their work, I hope these talented folks find new homes either in the industry or in other countries. No point wasting your talent on shameless people!

Effectively a full repeal of the largest climate bill in history. There’s no strategy for America’s future. We all get sicker and pay more in energy bills and suffer climate disasters, while some rich folks pay less in taxes. That’s it. Disgraceful.
The House Republican's budget bill is starting to drop. It extends trillions in tax cuts for the wealthy while effectively crippling US manufacturing & energy industries and raising energy costs. It's effectively full repeal of the IRA. Here's tax portion waysandmeans.house.gov/wp-content/u... 🔌💡
